Toriko features lessons/educational tidbits as well as factoids and trivia on a variety of different subjects and even mixtures of them at the same time specifically AND primarily on science with a little history and geography added/thrown into the series

With the amount of references in this animé I found out about many fun facts (mostly useless facts about actors/actresses with horsey faces) about Japon during the Edo period and even in modern Japon today
