From Wikipedia, on Catherine: The love between Catherine and Heathcliff forms the basis of Wuthering Heights' plot. She struggles to find her identity in the novel, as shown by the names she repeats 'Catherine Earnshaw, Catherine Linton, Catherine Heathcliff'
A flightly, free-spirited and somewhat spoiled young woman, Catherine returns Heathcliff's passionate love but does not consider herself able to marry him, instead choosing another childhood friend, the wealthy Edgar Linton of Thrushcross Grange. Upon Heathcliff's return, following a prolonged absence after the pairs' marriage, her physical and mental health is destroyed by the feud between Heathcliff and Edgar, and she dies in childbirth. She does, however, continue to haunt Wuthering Heights after her death.

Like Catherine, Bella is also trying to understand herself and understand her heart, which is something she works quite a lot on in Eclipse. Like Catherine, Bella has a few identity problems. (Re: Jacob's Bella & Edward's Bella.)
Bella is like Catherine in so many ways because like Catherine, Bella had to choose between two... well, I was going to say good things, but Heathcliff is rather evil so I'll say people instead.
A difference, through, between Catherine and Bella is that Catherine chose her childhood friend while Bella has chosen Edward.
Although I do believe that Catherine loved Edgar, he wasn't her true love quite like Heathcliff was, like Edward is Bella's.
Bella chose true love, while Catherine chose love. So although the story is the same in many ways, because of that fact it is also very different.
