We don't know how much it hurt him until chapter 22 of eclipse, but we catch glimpese of it until then. so no, my opinion of him did not change. And I wouldn't necesarily say that when he left her was a bad decision. He went with the one he thought was right for her. He didn't know how much it would hurt each of them to be apart. He thought she would get over him. He didn't think that even if he a dit she could déplacer on, that she would still cling to him. So, it can be interpretted different ways i guess. Now, Jacob, my opinion changed of him alot! but I'll save that for another time. haha
But his cœur, coeur did break, not literally, but mentally, he Lost the will to live. He was just a being stuck in this lifeless world. Like Edward said, "Before toi Bella, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars- points of light and reason. And then toi shott across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everthing was on fire. There was brilliancy, there was beauty. When toi were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded par the light. I couldn't see the stars anymore. And there was no plus reason for anything." He didn't have the will, the strength to live, but he was stuck in this lifeless, forgive the pun, world. She was his life, and when she was gone, when he hurt her to save her, he didn't have anything to live for.
