i don't think it would be good... they have an economy and society that would hurt us. plus, they'd be subject to the same rules across the country as we are, including ones that would hurt them like school standardized testing that would be in english. most of the kids would fail those tests and all of their school systems would be changed for the worse.

No, we have had 51 states for what a hundred years? I dont think more states should be added. As well as the fact that puerto rico is mostly a spanish island ( i do believe the spanish settled there first ) so it would be like us taking their land :l

With all the debt that we're in, no. I don't think it would be good for any of the American territories to become states. Who wants to wish this sort of economy on someone else?

@XxEmolovexX We only have 50 states. And it was only about 60 years ago when Hawaii and Alaska became states.
I just don't like the idea of giving them the economy we're in right now. Also there might be a loss of culture which I don't like at all.

@xxemolovexx: hah, tradition's a very bad way to judge things. we used to send girls to get married at 16. we used to have public executions. we used to not allow gay marriage at all. we used to have africans as slaves. things change. also, didn't you know that most of the us was spanish at some point? texas, california, florida, and basically all of the south used to be theirs until we took the land. but the issue of puerto rico's statehood is drastically different in a good way because the people are voting. they voted something like 63% (?) in favor of statehood from what i remember, so we wouldn't just be taking them against their will, they'd have to have the majority agree for it to go through.

Another state I have to go visit? I still haven't seen North Dakota, Alaska or Hawaii!

No... Puerto Rico is not even that affected by the U.S. To be honest, it barely has any relation to the U.S. So why should it become a U.S. state? Good question.
