Was Marilyn Manson to blame for Columbine? Was it his musique that caused the tragedy at Columbine? Or, was he not at all connected to this event? These are the questions that motivated Peter Reynosa to paint his painting called "Portrait of Marilyn Manson at Columbine."

It is a strange painting that has a swastika, upside down cross, and an inverted pentagram that are suspended over a crowd of people. "I used these symbols to represent Marilyn Manson," Reynosa said. "The swastika is used because Columbine occurred on April 20, Adolf Hitler's birthday. And Marilyn Manson loves Nazi symbolism, and the name he took was from a man, Charles Manson, who has a swastika on his forehead. And the upside down traverser, croix represents Marilyn Manson's hatred of traditional, conservative Christianity. And I used a pentagram to represent Satanism. And while Marilyn Manson is an honorary priest of the Church of Satan, he is not a Satanist. But he does like Satanic symbolism, much like Anton LaVey liked it."

It is the crowd that makes the painting work, Reynosa said. "If toi think he had something to do with the Columbine massacre, then that is a crowd of people being massacred at Columbine. But if toi think he had nothing to do with Columbine, then that is simply a group of people attending one of his concerts."
