It’s a rare thing to see Cuddy give a genuine smile in an episode of House, which is why it was pretty much incredible to see her give three all in the l’espace of Adverse Events. And yes, I can hear toi saying they weren’t directed to House and this is the Huddy Spot, but ours with me for a moment. It's relevant to the Huddyness. ;)

Whilst I was écriture this, I saw a commentaire that bainmoussant posté on another article in which she a dit that Cuddy, instead of dating “successful, suit-wearing, clean-shaved guys” would rather go out with plus “fun, laidback guys, like Lucas”…and which other doctor do we know who fits into that mould?

par introducing the PI into the show, the writers are not only able to (in the most creative ways possible!) give us long awaited information on the characters we l’amour but also make him act as the much-needed catalyst for Huddy. Just 4-5 months earlier we left off in the season 4 finale with Cuddy holding onto House’s hand while she slept at his bedside and furthermore, we were hit par the fact that House was actually letting her do so. And yet, now, both parties are jouer la comédie as though nothing ever happened. Sure, it adds a great deal plus to the sexual tension, but there’s only so much longer that can last without snapping (and we all know it’s going to snap soon).

And then we are presented with Adverse Events and PI Lucas’ obvious attraction to Cuddy. At the very beginning of the episode, whilst Cuddy is in the middle of chewing out House, there are two very obvious times in which Lucas eyes Cuddy up and down finally culminating in him - albeit clumsily – complimenting her. Watch House’s face at that scene. Is that a faint trace of possessiveness ou jealously on his face? But House isn’t worried. He knows about Lucas’ bad track record with woman having witnessed it first hand in Not Cancer. Little does House know how out of control this little crush is going to become.

Then we see a very cute scene in Cuddy’s office. At the beginning of this scene Cuddy says:

“If House wants to know what I’m doing all he has to do is ask –“

Cuddy wants House to talk to her. She didn’t tell Lucas to tell House to leave her the heck alone. Instead she a dit she was there for him to talk to if he wanted to. No need for such roundabout methods that involved snooping and spying. Just a conversation between the two of them. Is this what Cuddy is waiting for to happen between her and House?

However she is cut off par the PI asking her very bluntly out on a rendez-vous amoureux, date and then giving her a bouquet of roses. Cuddy’s smile suggests that it may have been a long time since someone has done something like this for her.
But is the PI really into Cuddy ou is he just “following House’s orders”?

We later on see a scene in House’s apartment in which we find out that House sent Lucas to Cuddy to get information about her. Yet, Lucas himself says that that was not the only reason he is going on a rendez-vous amoureux, date with Cuddy. He thinks she’s hot too. This sets up a few premises for the episode. First of all, it is now apparent that House wants to find out plus about Cuddy. Is this just curiosity ou is it, as House implies, for future blackmailing purposes? Either way, House’s desire to want to know plus about Cuddy is very telling. Secondly, House is now also very aware of the fact that Lucas is very into Cuddy. Should he start to be worried now? The look on his face at the end of the following scene certainly suggests so:

PI: You’re in this for the same reason I am. We’ll see who gets there first.

The fight for Cuddy’s affections has begun and yes, absolutely no one can contest against the fact that House is in it to win. However, as the episode progresses, we are not shown any interaction between House and Cuddy. Instead, we have a scene in which Cuddy and the PI have lunch together. The PI shows Cuddy a photo of House on the cheerleading team when he was in college to which Cuddy réponses that House had once told her he was on the lacrosse team (I do wonder when a conversation like that would have taken place between House and her). But then as the scene continues, Lucas realises that Cuddy knows that he was sent to her from House. She says she knows the photo’s a fake and that Lucas only came because House told him to get information on her. Lucas says sorry and gets up to leave, only to turn back to Cuddy before he leaves the diner:

PI: So toi knew I wasn’t going to give toi anything worthwhile? And toi were never going to give me anything worthwhile. Then why did toi bother coming out with me?
Cuddy: I…wanted to screw with House.
PI: par wasting my time? That doesn’t make sense. Nope…there must be another reason. Hm, is it okay if I sit back down here?

And we see yet another wonderful smile on Cuddy’s face. Is she falling for Lucas? Is she trying to make House jealous? Is she just happy to have a man so obviously interested in her? These are all theories I’ve seen bandied around since the episode aired. Time will tell what is going to happen between the two of them.

However, the scene between the both of them in the le dîner, salle à manger later serves its full purpose of emphasising the undercurrents of Huddy that are flowing throughout this episode. We learn that the picture of House as a cheerleader is actually real and that House wanted Lucas to montrer Cuddy this picture so that she would “see him in a different light”.

I feel that that quote is very important. House suddenly wants Cuddy to see him as something else other than the caustic, grouchy person he is now. He wants her to know that there is a different side to him. Never before have we ever seen House try to montrer another person a, “better-looking” side of himself. House’s mur of ice is slowly melting when it comes to Cuddy’s view of him. However PI Lucas goes on to say that not only did Cuddy not fall for that trick, she didn’t even believe that the photo was real (cleverly leaving out the fact that he put that idea in her head in the first place).

Watch House’s expression again. He seems to be trying to hide the fact that he is disappointed that Cuddy didn’t even believe that the photo was real let alone see a different side of him. He joined the cheerleading team for a girl. He wanted her to know he could care. Can I even go as far as to say that he may even be hinting to her that he can change for her if she wants him to?

Finally, we come to the last lines of dialogue in the episode:

PI Lucas: Do toi want me to back off?
House: Would you?
PI Lucas: I barely even know you.
House and PI: *laughs*

We finally see House say it aloud. He wants Cuddy to himself. Yet, he is careful around Lucas, the only “friend” he currently has. Unlike précédant events, he is not barging in and disrupting Cuddy’s dates. Instead he asks Lucas whether he can back off – in a slightly quieter voice than usual – and waits hopefully for the answer that never comes. Lucas is not backing off. The fight for Cuddy is still on and we can only wait and see who will win.

Adverse Events, though only showcasing one scene between House and Cuddy, manages to take the complicated relationship between the two of them one step further. House’s intentions towards Cuddy are now very clear and carved in stone. His feelings towards her are now in the open and there is no way in which it can stay that way without any implications on their relationship.

Will PI Lucas get Cuddy first? House will be away during the suivant episode leaving the two of them behind and a lot can happen when there is no interfering presence. Will House’s jealously get the better of him? How will he finally act on his feelings? Adverse Events took us up to the diving board. It’s up to House to take the chance and jump.
