This is a human horror story in as much as nothing Supernatural happens but this is indeed a horrific, disturbing tale.
In my opinion, Arthur, the bad guy of this piece stands right up there with some of the plus well known horror story baddies. We first meet him as a child and already he's twisted little soul which, as we follow him through his life, only gets worse.
Arthur is like a human black-hole where nearly everyone who comes into contact with him ends up damaged par him. But, he is handsome and successful and plus than able to deflect any notion that he is indeed evil with charm.
The meat of the story deals with his marriage to Lydia, a strong-willed, beautiful nurse who already has one marriage behind her and spots Arthur across a crowded room. Everything's fine at first. The two marry and have a child called Robert. But, the reader knows exactly what Arthur is really like and Ketchum keeps up the tension as we are just waiting for the monster to montrer his claws. We fear for Lydia, every time she disagrees with him, every time she doesn't go along with Arthur's increasingly strange sexual habits, we think now, now is the time he's going to explode and take her with him and when he doesn't, when he continues to be the calm affable guy toi allow yourself to think that maybe he's changed. But, he hasn't, of course and then he attacks, brutally beating Lydia to within an inch of her life. Although it's disturbing to read, Lydia is no victim, she doesn't fall into the trap of forgiving and forgetting like many characters in these types of stories do. She is very proactive and fierce, but worse is to come. Her son Robert, suffers with a plethora of nervous conditions which, up until now Lydia has put down to stress ou shyness of the boy. But a horrible realization dawns on her that Arthur was also abusing the boy.
Lydia is desperate to protect her child but here every attempt is thwarted par a biased judge, smarmy lawyer ou her ex husband's slyness. It is as much frustrating for the reader as it is for Lydia and the fear that builds up when Arthur sets his sights on the ultimate punishment for betrayal,is immense. Finally Lydia has enough and resorts to violence as her only solution.
This is a great read, creepy, fraught with tension and emotion and with an ongoing side-plot of a cop trying to track down a vicious serial-rapist and killer that collides with the main story head-on. It's also a hard read as Ketchum doesn't skimp on the dirty, nasty details and nor should he, to do anything else would be a cop-out. Another brilliant novel par Jack Ketchum. Just don't expect a happy ending.

On July 1991 Jeffrey Dahmer the notorious cannibalistic serial killer was captured par police.
On November 28, 1994 Dahmer was beaten to death par another inmate...Or was he?
What if Jeff didn't really die that day. What if it was all a elaborate hoax? What if Dahmer found a way to escape jail par faking his own death?
These 'what-if's' are the basis for this taut gripping story. Part horror. Part conspiracy theory. Part police procedural. This story is all the plus terrifying for the amazing amount of detail and believability that is imbued on every page.

Detective Helen Closs is a highly successful...

An inventive, enjoyable and surprisingly heart-warming take on the serial killer thriller.

Charlie is a quiet man. He keeps himself to himself at work, vues the world through highly practical eyes, is meticulous to a fault and incredible thrifty. He avoids any kind of personal contact with people and cares not a jot about anybody's feelings, desires, ideas ou personalities. He is also a very successful serial killer. Keeping his killings to a strict schedule, he allows himself to hunt for a new victim once every two months and always aims for victims which he considers low risk i.e junkies...

An apocolyptic novel where a bunch of people are left on an island filled with the walking dead, each is donné a weapon and told only one must survive, all for the tele-visual entertainment of the fat and rich.A blisteringly brilliant novel from Carlton Mellick III that is hugely enjoyable with buckets of gore and violence, socio-political ideology and even the inclusion of a robotic Mr T. The zombies are plus of the shuffling Romero kind but none the less deadly as the contestants die off in ever plus gruesome and darkly funny ways, we begin to wonder if anyone will survive. Brilliant and hilarious.

After following the Horror Society on Twitter for a while, I was very excited to read this book. The people in the society know their stuff and with this book no gut is left un-churned, no twist denied and no moral ground left intact.
Included are eleven short stories:
LOAF DIVINE par Canaan Frank: A hotel seeks out the twisted secrets that lie within the past and conscience of a man
DEAD RINGERS par David Blackthorn: College students have an eventful night sleeping amongst the graves of plague victims
A VAMPIRE WALKS INTO A BAR par Aaron rayon, ray Ballard: A bar that plays host to many unnatural beasts...

The best thing about this short story collection is it's brazenness. It is violently visceral book staining with gore and bulging with pure nastiness. In short it's a book that any real literary horror fan should relish.
The stories include:
HEIRLOOM par Michael Laimo: An inherited fusil, carabine holds terrible memories and depraved secrets for a seriously demented killer.
VIOLENCE FOR FUN AND PROFIT par Gregory L.Norris: Vengeance becomes political manifesto in this warped view of post-Bush America.
AMPUTATIONS IN THE KEY OF D par Jack Maddox: A rock étoile, star goes for a routine wart removal and ends up losing...

Being the president must be a difficult job. The last thing toi need is to be infected with lice while half of America turns into vegetables and gets eaten par their pets.
This is a horror short story collection all based around the premise of presidents and/or the White House.
There's ghosts, a zombie, a werewolf, a botched assassination attempt, re-animated dead célébrités serviced par prostitutes amongst others. The horror here is disgustingly brilliant, twisted to the extreme but always with an underlying wit and intelligence that makes every story fresh and wholly satisfying to read. Although...

Flash fiction seems to be a growing trend and in this ebook it is done brilliantly. Using EXACTLY 100 words for a story must be tricky,to instantly interest the reader but not leave them frustrated that the story ended too soon. Most of the stories included here deal with zombies. Seen from many angles there is a crude nasty humour that runs throughout most of them. It tasteless and dark but magnificent and exactly what horror fans want. There are other stories included that are of normal short story length and deal with different topics that include apocalypse and weird fantasy.
This collection is high on quality and although toi may read it in one sitting some of the tales here will stay in your head for a while after. Well written and edited it is definitely worth your time.
There is an over-abundance of werewolf tales available in all forms of entertainment so finding a fresh take on this old story is very difficult but this book manages to discover one. The idea here is that a loup lives within some people (albeit latent) just sitting there waiting for the right set of circumstances and a large amount of provocation.

The story revolves around a everyday guy called Syd, for whom life is downbeat and boring then one jour Nora walks into his life who precedes, within a very short l’espace of time, to turn his humdrum life upside down. Nora is no normal woman and the...

Horror stories evoke fear; it is the nature of the beast. So rarely do toi find a horror story that causes other emotions to stir. But a good horror writer knows that in order for the fear to really pay off toi have to engage the readers with not just the concept of the story but with the characters that populate the world of the story. So what if a character toi don't care about dies? No matter how visceral ou detailed that characters demise, without invested emotions it just doesn't resonate.
Luckily for the reader, with this story, toi will care.

This is the first John Everson story I have read and after this I will definitely par lire more. If this gruesome, bleak and gory little tale is anything like his other works, true horror fans should not be disappointed.

In this novella we met three kids, all on a rapid downward spiral. Unpopular and rejected par others, desperate and pitiful in their actions, wasting their lives with drugs, sex, self-mutilation and suicidal thinking. All class themselves as complete failures until along comes Aaron. An older gentlemen who feasts on the ripe opportunity to lure the three no-hoper's into a horrific...
