Do spells affect loups garous the same as they would affect humans?

I was thinking about this while écriture my fanfiction, plus specifically about Lupin's experience transforming and the solutions that could've been applied to his situation... Would spells, such as Protego and Petrificus Totalus, work on him while he was transformed?
