At her seventh birthday party,
Looking 'round the ribboned room.
"This tablecloth is rose not white--

Ninety-eight the jour she died
Complainin' 'bout the spotless floor.
People shook their heads and sighed.
"Guess that she'll like heaven more."
Up went her soul on feathered wings,
Out the door, up out of site.
Another voice from heaven came--
"Almost perfect...but not quite."

God says to me with kind of a smile,
"Hey how would toi like to be God awhile
And steer the world?"
"Okay," says I, "I'll give it a try.
Where do I set?
How much do I get?
What time is lunch?
When can I quit?"
"Gimme back that wheel," says God,
"I don't think you're quite ready yet."
