Sword of the Stranger is a Bones Production full feature animated film set in Feudal Japan.
Japon has yet to form a central government and empire, making it a weak country full of territories and warring states. Unlike Japan, China has finally managed to unify its country under one Emperor (Quin, anyone remember Jet Li's "Hero"?)
The Emperor is getting old and in his paranoia and attempts to cheat death, his sages have advised pursuing an elixir of eternal health. To shorten the details, a young boy from China has managed to escape to Japon and meets up with a wandering Samurai. His blood is needed for the elixir and China will do whatever it takes to capture and kill him before the time period to perform the ritual lapses and can not be held for another year.
With tension building between the Japanese and Chinese and the boy and his samurai friend caught in the middle, this movie offers plus chaos and beautifully rendered explosive action than toi can possibly imagine.
I would recommend this movie to most avid animé fans and rate it right up there with Kenshin:Trust and Betrayal and Ninja Scroll as one of the best period novel films ou animated OVA's ever created thus far.
