The animes I thought were great are Ranma 1/2 (older), Lucky étoile, star (newer), The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (newer), Urusei Yatsura (older) and Kuroshitsuji (newer). If toi like comedy, go for an older series. animé nowadays is getting a little serious.
