I never fully agree with any mainstream politicians but republicans are worse than democrats and I have a better chance of seeing at least some of my views represented if I vote democratically. Bernie Sanders is probably my favorite presidential candidate I've seen since I've been interested in politics and even then I hate his foreign policy.

I don't know? I'm not from the states. But, it sounds like your Republicans can be compared with people from our National party, while the Democrats could be compared with our Labour party. I'm from NZ, by the way.
