I adore Ming Na's voice, it's very soothing, but now that you mention it...
Tiana's lesson is good but imo it's a very obvious one (doesn't everyone know this already, especially in workaholic America?), and people tend to miss the whole point that hard work is good but love is better. And Tangled was technically well done but it has some really messed up, hypocritical messages to it, and overall wasn't as original and interesting as ones that took risks like PATF or Sleeping Beauty.
1) misogynistic, slut-shaming nonsense
2) not grounded in anything that actually happens in the movie
Or, maybe, I should tell you that I dislike the sound of Anika Noni Rose's speaking voice, and her singing voice, too...because both of them have a very irritated quality all of the time. Anika is also very irritated after she was sexually assaulted on an aircraft, and the FBI refused to tell her the name of the man, and dropped the case, too.
If we're judging a character by their personal life, then I can say that Anika Noni Rose is a very angry person both on-screen as a voice actress ( Tiana), and off-screen as well. And neither one appeals to me.
And I think Adelital was saying she hates Ming-Na Wen’s voice acting and herself as a person, not Mulan herself.
Although if that is the case, I agree, it is possible to separate the actor and the character and just hate one of the two. There’s a voice actor I loved who it turns out is very homophobic and creeps on girls but I still love the characters he played because the characters themselves are good people
@BB2010, thanks for defense, you got my words correctly. In my mother tongue dub of Prince of Egypt Rameses was voiced by the person I don't think highly of as a person( although he grew to me after his Instagram post on March 8th, especially considering the conservative he lives in). But I really find his voice both more beautiful and more fitting for Rameses than Ralph Fiennes'. Talking of Rameses himself, he is a very well-written and quite unique character but unrespectable(imho) person.
@BB2010: Yes, it happened last year. Anika told some news tabloids about it. Several websites have it. I really felt sorry for her, because NO female deserves to be assaulted AT ALL. But...even before 2018, Anika just came across to me as angry all of the time. She starred in plays on Broadway as an angry woman character, and also in the remake of Roots ( where Black females in that true historical account got seriously wronged through American slavery's zillion atrocities). But I wondered why she kept playing angry characters... Tiana being among them. I just am not drawn to people who are angry all of the time.
Jasmine never gives anyone any reason to think she's a slut.
The original Belle is way better than Emma Watson.
Tangled is a dreadful movie.
The cat and mouse scenes in Cinderella are tedious and pointless, and occupy way too much time.
I like Mulan's voice, there is nothing wrong with it.
Edit: No wait you’re replying to Adelital’s comment aren’t you?
It’s cuz her actress made a fart joke once
