Depends on what you consider the right thing. I believe they both did what they felt was the right thing for them.

I don't think Ariel followed her heart, she was just mad at the world which is normal. But I don't think letting your emotions get to you is the right thing to do.

I agree with KataraLover. It depends. It might seem VERY selfish doing something for one's self. But it always isn't if it's truly the right thing for you. Sometimes you have to follow your heart on whats right for you and follow your dreams and do what you have to do if you're going to get anywhere in this world. Because sitting around isn't going to get you anywhere. And thats what Ariel did. She wasn't truly completely happy and her family was keeping her away from the one thing that would make her happy. So Ariel did all that she had to do to get it and to prove to her family that it was the right thing for her. Even though she made some rough wrong choices on the way and went down a bumpy road, but it all turned out alright in the end and her father finally saw that it was the right thing for her and that he was too blind to see it by trying to overprotect her. She probably wouldn't do what she did if her father wasn't so controlling and drove her to being rebellious and go behind her father's back.

to me family is the most important thing, especially if said family care about you. sure Triton/her sisters weren't amazing but they were no Lady Tremaine, Drizella & Anastasia that's for sure.

Both did the right thing, because both follow their heart and feeling.

Of course you got to realize Pocahontas was older then Ariel and acted a lot more mature....Ariel was a 16 yr old child and let her hormones (not heart) make her decision....Yeah Pocahontas was only 2 yrs older but she carried herself as an older woman...Ariel came off exactly like her age (I am not saying all 16 old girls act like hormonal sex crazed idiots...some are very mature and well grounded...but there are many who act just like Ariel and do things before thinking them through)...true it turned out well for Ariel, but imagine if Ariel had gotten legs and then came to find out Eric was an asshole and had Gastons personality...what then? She was lucky he was cute and a nice guy....At least Pocahontas talked to and got to know John a little and yet she still chose her people and family over him....Ariel chose Eric over her family based on his looks and her sudden desire to have him....

Both were right, each in their own situation.

Agree with KataraLover. Ariel's family and kingdom's people didn't need her to stay but Pocahontas' people needed her guidence and help with the oncoming people from Europe.

I always respected Pocahontas more than Ariel for her selfless choice.
