I think one reason (among many) is that it has many fans who claim to be quite unpopular and plain and they've found a world where they fit in, a group of people who love something they love who they have something in common with so the books offer them not only a fun fantasy world but something more valuable to them, social acceptance. Twilight represents a way they fit in, so it becomes more important to them than it should be. I'm not sure if that's right, but it's my theory.
I think there are quite a few people who need to step back, when it gets to the point that they aren't focusing on other things or expanding their horizons in any other way because they are so attached to this one series, or when, like in many cases, they have become so over attached that it makes them hostile to anyone who disagrees. There are some people who have become so obsessed that I feel sorry for them (or at least I would if they didn't keep calling me an evil moron because I don't like the books, lol)
I think most Twilight fans just say that because they spend a lot or at least some of their time doing Twilight related things. Not like it is bad or anything. That is just being a fan. Unless ALL you do it Twilight stuff. And since the fans do that stuff it seems weird to think what they would be doing if they didn't have Twilight.
But if they really and I mean REALLY think they can't make it a day without Twilight. Then that is a tad bit concerning.
But I think it is just a phrase fans use when they talk about something they like. I say it all the time and I don't see anything wrong with saying it. But believing it is another thing.
And I am not even a Twilight fan. Lol.
Basically, I think that Twilight is putting people under a sort of
fog. They constantly relate everything back to the series and don't spend any time actually living their own lives. ATTENTION TWILIGHT FANS- You do not have a boyfriend named Edward Cullen and vampires do not sparkle. I just feel like some fans need to have a wake-up call.
Someone said that to me while i was gushing about the glorious-ness of Bangel.
I think its the fact the Bella has no personality that readers can connect with her, and think they are so much like her.
I think these are the scariest potentially dangerous fanbase i've ever seen....they honestly can't tell the difference between real life and fantasy fiction.
Really?
I understand being a fan of something, but to say its "changed your life" is a little much. I've always found that when I start getting overly consumed with something as trivial as a tv show/book or movie (and I do have my obsessions, Lost, Buffy, True Blood, ect) I find it healthy to remind myself that "these people aren't real, they are fictional. There are better, more important things happening in my life" Then I go outside and forget all about it for awhile.
I'm saying this because when you get so wrapped up in something like this, its easy to find it important at the time, but a couple years from now I guarantee you are going to look back and laugh and then wonder "was it all necessarily worth it?" again, I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just trying to say that fiction should not be the primary focus in ANYONE'S life.
Well... this has made me think back to when I was young (or younger, should I say, I'm only nineteen) and I was in love with boybands, yes, the classic boybands, BSB and NSYNC and A1 and 5ive, and I would have said all sorts of silly things that my brother made fun of. I think, during the young and tender years before the acne and the opposite-sex-attraction stuff kicks in full blast, being in love with silly things and saying silly things and doing silly things is great. Even during all of the teen years (I was particularly thinking of pre-teen years because that's when I loved things that way and I grew out of it quicker than I think others do). I deeply miss those innocent and simple years. Maybe the fangirls that aren't violent or aggressive but say and do crazy obsessive things about their love for Twilight are the same sort of thing - let them have their fun, I did not die when my boybands broke up, they will not die either when it comes to Twilight. In a few years they'll no longer be interested. As long as they're not hurting anybody and being cruel, rude and aggressive, I think it's okay - it may be silly but I was silly about things too, I'm not silly about anything now which is very boring!
So yeah. As long as the obsession does not develop into a possible mental breakdown which could be dangerous, it's fine. I hope I made sense, I feel like I'm babbling.
Seriously? you can't see anything wrong with that?
And she broke several bones by the way, it also sent like 3 other girls to the hospital as well. A riot in some north mid-western state sent like 12 girls to the hospital too, after word got out about a 'Pattinson signing' at a local mall.
To have a healthy mix of both. yeah sure I love doing other stuff than watching movies, get outta the house, find some new obessions (lolz) but dont let your obessions rule you (if you know what i mean) and i still have big discussions with my friends about our similiar interests when it comes to movies, tv series and characters that can go on and on, and on lol, but you can go without if need be it aint the end of the world! lolz! You soon find something else to obess about hehehe =D
I know all about obsessions for fictional things, but when a book is like a drug, you need to see a therapist.
I've been completely in love with Star Wars and Harry Potter for years, and I think my life would be very different without them. They helped me get through a lot of tough times and I always wished I could be a part of it, but I don't think I could ever call them a drug, or say I couldn't live without them, because that's untrue. If your sole reason for living is a series which, in all honesty, isn't good, you need to go outside, meet some people, and get a life.
Also, your reasoning for why Twilight isn't just a fad confuses me. It doesn't matter how old the readers are, the books will still lose a lot of fans after the last movie, because a fair chunk of the fanbase is just there because it's the 'in' thing right now, or they just want to fit in. Once the hype dies down, we'll see just how many fans this series has. It's only been out for about 4.5 years, and already I can see people losing interest (and I should know, I go to an all-girls high school).
The twi-tards are overreacting but I think it's kind of funny to watch... until you figure out they're for real and then you feel sorry for them.
ITS MY DRUG 2 =) <3 lol and its not a fad. im nvr gonna stop loving it
TEAM EDWARD 4 LIFEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
