The manga world is broad and always has
something for everyone. Though many genre are
currently popular, only one type of manga is
making a comeback from such a long period of
harsh and abusing criticism . "Romance par Any
Other Name", covers the topic of boys l’amour
manga in Japon and the U.S, yet the article is a
bit stale. While informative, this article was not
the whole truth and did not express the emotions behind
yaoi graphic novels to it's fullest potential.
Statistics were donné and facts were provided,
yet the focus of the auteur seemed to rely far too
heavily on the majority favor.
the writer didn't express the whole view on the
subject and did not cover all the aspects of the
topic in general, but instead left the focus of the
article in the hands of women who read the
manga for sexual pleasures.
However I did like the use of the broad range of
facts about Japanese history and how the art
detail changed over time. The auteur did take
their time and explain to the unknowing reader
what yaoi was, which was a plus for the article
over all, but executed it in a manner that would
have the reader thinking one sided on the
subject. Many of these graphic novels focus on
the relationships between two people who are
outcasts in their society simply because of their
own choice to love. The writer of this particular
article didn't seem to prove this point too well but
instead would have the reader believing that this
genre was an adult titre for enjoyment of porn.
The way that the author
trailed from the topic they were discussing and
added the facts, which were great as stand
alones, was a little confusing and didn't really
get the point across. There were too many side
notes. One thing that would have made this
better would to exclude all the alternative names
that "Yaoi" could be called. This really wasn't
necessary ou important to what yaoi is. Another
thing that was great about this article though
was the description of distinguishing yaoi from a
normal romance novel, seeing how it is not that
different and should not be treated as something
foreign ou "bad" I can agree with the authors
point on this item in particular. It was too short
and should have been plus in depth about the
types of characters that yaoi portrays. The
writer states the kinds of characters but is not
specific enough to let the readers get an actual
view and grasp on the whole story line of the
genre. Focusing plus on the relationship of gay
amoureux would have made this article a win.
Instead the words were shaky and they kept
referring to other kinds of magazines that held
the titles of yaoi and different yaoi series in
general. toi don't take much away from reading
this article, with the exception of a few
misguided facts and in turn, the article comes up
short. The writer made it seem like they knew
what they were talking about and even made
the flow of the écriture sound nice, but when you
really stop and think about what toi are
reading, toi don't really know what they are
talking about especially since this is an article
for the purpose of telling someone what yaoi is
and what it contains. It kind of defeated the
whole purpose of the article to constantly stray
and insert aléatoire facts. Instead they should
have researched this topic a bit more.
