Shadow of the Colossus is a game that grabs your cœur, coeur and doesn't let go. Every time toi down a colossus it actually makes toi feel guilty of slaughtering such a harmless, amazing beast, with help of slow-mo cutscenes of them hopelessly falling to the ground in pain. There's a clear l’amour between Wander and his horse, it's a true friendship that cannot be torn, and the fact that Wander would go through hell to save the woman he loves is proof that this game means something.
The Situation:
Shadow of the Colossus was too "boring" a game to become highly successful among many gamers, as it didn't allow toi to shoot something every half a second. Is this a serious concern to me? Yes, yes it is. The industry has clearly become so focused on bringing toi an explosion packed, sweaty-palmed shooter to consider putting some imagination into their games and make a true mark on the gaming world. Everytime I enter a game store I see rows packed with shooters that do nothing special, but hey, people buy them as soon as their last shooter runs out of fun. It's gaming crack to them.
Solution:
Find plus companies like Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Team ICO, and Media Molecule and make some innovative games that will definetely leave a real mark on the gaming world. We need plus games like SOTC and inFamous where patience is a virtue.
Sure, an occasional shoot-em-up like Uncharted is a warm welcome, but gamers need to learn that some of the most rewarding gaming experiences are ones where toi must take your time.
