‘The X-Files’ Revival Cast — Walter Skinner, Cigarette-Smoking Man Return | TVLine 

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return to 

as part of Fox’s six-episode revival, they won’t be coming alone.

on Tuesday, Duchovny was asked which original characters we can look forward to seeing again, at which point the beans were spilled:

“There’s Gillian and I, we’re original. Mitch Pileggi will come back, and the cigarette-smoking man — if that means anything to anyone — will be coming back.”

William B. Davis’ “cigarette-smoking man,” as you may recall, was Mulder’s arch nemesis, revealed in the show’s sixth season to be named C.G.B. Spender. Pileggi, meanwhile, played FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner, who was included in TVLine’s gallery of 16 things we need to see in

Sorry, but they are dead if you remember. They came back to the show after their spinoff was cancelled, and they were killed.

Last year’s Season Ten comic retconned that. They faked their deaths. Supposedly this comic is canon, so I’m hoping for a Lone Gunmen return to TV.

I don’t know much about the comics but really, when you think about it, if anybody can cheat death on this show it’d be CSM and quite possibly the Lone Gunmen [and I’m hoping it’s the case for my beloved Krycek…yes he was shot in the head. Point blank. Right between the eyes, but I can dream].

Season 10 comic rewrote a lot (CSM and LONE Gunmen were alive) and is considered canon.

Didn’t CSM get shot by missiles from a helicopter while wheelchair bound in a hideout in the desert? Pretty sure we saw his body surrounded by flames as well. I mean, I love the character, but I’m afraid of how they will bring him back.

Yes yes yes!!!! I was confident that Skinner would be back, but I wasn’t sure about CSM – yay!!!!! Oh my fangirl heart

But what of Doggett!! If they’re bringing back Skinner then Robert Patrick needs to come back too, keep the bromance alive!

I’ll accept Doggett but not Reyes. If I never hear another whale song in my life I will be happy.

I hope they get Doggett and The Lone Gunmen back for a few episodes!

Yay for Skinner, but not happy about CSM. The character was run into the ground in the series and finally died. The last thing we need is for them to revive all of the sloppy plotlines that they blew in the series. They should just focus on what actually worked

Ya it got sloppy at times and they dropped more plots than we could count…..but The CSM is an integral character to the XFiles mythos. He was the embodiment of all the conspiracy elements and whenever he was on screen, he just conveyed the *mood* of the show.

it’s too bad they killed off the Lone Gunman. Having them appear would make this even sweeter than it is. Guess you can’t have everything. I will be happy with what they give us, just to see Skinner, Scully, and Fox back.

Wait?! How can Cancer Man (he will never be any other name to me!) be coming back? Wasn’t he blown up by a crashing helicopter? missile? I remember him being blown up. In a wheelchair.

Aliens? Hahah do we even need logical explanations at this point?
