How do toi gain talent badges?

I figured it was just making your Sims do a particular task (like toy making) A LOT, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Am I missing something?

Every badge has it's skill, like robot making - mechanical, sells - charisma... and stuff. It's easier to gain badges if your sim has high skills

The only thing is, I have a Sim with complete skill points and he still isn't gaining anything. I'm not sure what it could be
