I understand that a lot of people prefer the burned face because it looks prettier. Here's the thing: it's not supposed to look pretty. There are two major reasons why: 1. The Phantom is very fixated on his face and the burn makes it look like he's complaining about nothing. 2. His entire backstory revolves around being mocked and tortured in a carnival freak show. The burn doesn't qualify as freak-show material. In short, it's historically inaccurate and lessens the effect of the reveal.

Lol, "burned" face. It looks more like a severe case of acne than a fucking burn. The 2004 movie fails on so many levels, it's insane.
