Hassani Campbell

Five-year-old Hassani Campbell (who has cerebral palsy) was last seen in Oakland, California on August 10, 2009. His foster dad, Louis Ross stated that he left Hassani outside of his car in the back parking lot of a shoe store called Shuz. 

Louis was dropping off Hassani and his one-year-old sister, Aaliyah to be with his fiancee, Jennifer Campbell (who managed the shoe store). He took Aaliyah to unlock the door to the store and when he returned to the car, Hassani was missing.

At the time of his diappearance, Hassani and Aaliyah were living with their foster parents since December of 2008; their biological mom has health and substance abuse issues. Reportedly, they were planning on adopting him.

After Hassani's disappearance was reported, the police impounded Louis's car, took Aaliyah into protective custody and served search warrants on the foster parents' home. Louis took a polygraph test that he failed. Jennifer refused to take the test, saying that she was pregnant and feared that the test could affect the unborn child.

At the time, there were incidents of domestic violence between Louis and Jennifer. Ten days before Hassani's disappearance, Louis sent Jennifer an angry text message, threaning to abandon Hassani on a Bay Area Rapid Transit platform. He later said that he was mad at Jennifer and had no intention of abandoning Hassani.

Police were skeptical about Ross's statement about Hassani's disappearance and were unable to find proof to back it up. Neighbors said that they hadn't seen Hassani since about two weeks before he went missing. Police later determined that the last time Hassani was seen on August 6, 2009 at a Wal-Mart store in Fremont, California.

On August 28, 2009, Louis and Jennifer were arrested on suspicion of murder; however, the charges against them were dropped due to lack of evidence. Both of them maintain their innocence in Hassani's disappearance, but they are considered suspects.

As of 2023, Hassani has not been located.
