Amber Barker

Ten-year-old Amber Barker was last seen on the evening of December 18, 1997 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was at a friend's house when her mother called and told her to come home. She left her friend's house and was last seen riding her bicycle home, but she never made it.

The next day, Amber's bike was found abandoned in Dennison Park in Oklahoma City. On December 20, 1997, her sweater, shoes, one sock and a ring were discovered along Drexel Boulevard and northwest 12th Street. One of her shoes was discovered a block away from the other shoe.

Daniel John Smith (the common-law husband of Amber's sister) was previously convicted of attempted kidnapping in 1995. He pled guilty and was sentenced to a five-year deferred prison sentence and four months at a boot camp.

Prior to Amber's disappearance, the police were summoned to the house of one of Amber's sisters, claiming that Daniel hit her when she refused his sexual advances. Daniel was given a citation, but wasn't arrested.

Allegedly, Daniel was at Amber's house when Amber called her mom to say that she was coming home from her friend's house. He immediately left the house and headed in the same direction that Amber was coming home.

Daniel was questioned about Amber's disappearance. On December 22, 1997, he committed suicide by hanging from a tree in Ray Trent Park in Del City, Oklahoma. Although he wasn't named a suspect in Amber's disappearance, the police and Amber's family suspected he knew what happened on the day she went missing.

As of 2023, Amber's disappearance remains unsolved and foul play is suspected in her case.
