Chapter 1
Christmas
25th December
Snow drifted slowly from the heavens. All around, a white carpet surrounded the area. Cars honked, anxious to escape from the blanket of white. Elsewhere, footprints embedded themselves into the snow as children cheered playfully. Some had snowballs in their hand while others were merely enjoying the cold.
In a remote part of the rowdy street, a single tall building stood tall, overshadowing the others. It could have been treated as a rather proud, elegant piece of architecture of you took away the gloomy surroundings and the silent atmosphere within.
It was a foster home.
A particular door stood out amongst the others. It's door seemed to have a quite silvery glow surrounding it. Inside, a little girl with stormy grey eyes lay her head upon the windowsill. She gazed out, trying her best to catch a glimpse of the festive season outside.
No matter where she looked, however, it was merely darkness.
Christmas
That one word resonated in her mind.
To others, it was a day of happiness, but other than that it was a rather ordinary day.
But to her, who had been in the gloomy foster home almost her entire life, it was a chance for her.
A chance for her to catch a glimpse of the light.
