Karen Carpenters puts her own soulful touch on a great Motown classic. This song is a mix done by Jimmy Michaels from Karen’s unreleased solo tracks.
“Boat to Sail” was recorded and released in 1976 by Carpenters. Written by Jackie DeShannon, the song features excellent use of the trademark Carpenters multi-layered vocals as well as shimmering electric vibes and of course some wonderful Tony Peluso guitar work.

I have been a fan of the Carpenters since about 1970 or so. My whole family was vested in one way or the other musically.Dad had Chet Atkins and Les.Paul. Sisters had the Beatles and the Monkees. Brothers had Steppenwolf and Boz Skaggs. I had this rather more laid back sound that the Carpenters were producing. It was like experiencing Your best dream with Your best friend at Your favourite haunt. It was that each note , chord * lyric were very specific for that music piece. Each arrangment was presented to be unforgettable at every level and then to have Karens voice in the mix , overdubbing harmonoius. What Beautiful Music .
And Yes I recall when She died . Finding out when Ted Kopple was doing his nightly news. As I.am.sure for.many , it was like losing a sister, a dear friend who with her singing for a time, gave us such Joy in our lives.
She left too soon. Always will.wonder if we had heard her best. I would like to think so.
