Since they don't actually have fingerprints, how do the fingerprint locks work?

I only remember one time when they use fingerprint locks and it 's in Lover Reborn . Xhex can't get Xcor's mallette, porte-documents open because of a fingerprint lock and V manipulates it open . No fingerprints involved.
