TangoThang • With John Hughes’s directorial debut, he ushered in a new era in teen comedies with, gasp, a fifteen year old girl as his lead and found his muse in Molly Ringwald. They would collaborate two more times after this film, ultimately solidifying Ringwald’s place as the female voice of her generation. I should probably mention that this scene, where the dreamy Jake Ryan wisks Sam Baker away from her chaotic life to celebrate her birthday, fueled many an adolescent fantasy. Just a warning, ladies, the dreamy senior will never look twice at the awkward sophomore anywhere outside the confines of this film, but let us have our happy, unattainable fantasies
