#TMITV: Why @Daniel_Sharman Would Be @ShadowhuntersTV’s Perfect Jace
It’s an exciting week for fans of The Mortal Instruments series, to say the least. After months of speculation and rumors, ABC Family officially announced that
, the new television adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s beloved series, has been given a straight-to-series order consisting of 13 episodes. The fact that the series is officially happening–and is guaranteed 13 episodes, regardless of ratings–is extremely exciting, and of course, the number one question on every fan’s mind is who will be tapped to portray our favorite characters this time around. Casting is critical, and though we would love to maintain some of the
movie cast, we have to accept that we’re likely in for a whole new lineup. However, a fresh take on the story with all-new faces certainly gives us plenty to be excited about. While many fans (us included!) are eager for Molly Quinn to take on the role of Clary, that still leaves the question of who should play the gorgeous, snarky, badass Shadowhunter Jace. We’ve already given you our top picks, but now we’re going to narrow it down to the one actor who we think would be the perfect Jace: Daniel Sharman.
Why would Daniel be the perfect Jace? Let us count the ways:
fan can attest, Daniel is a pro at deadpan delivery of sarcasm–a must for anyone hoping to play Jace. Though Isaac Lahey spent half of his childhood locked in a freezer, he seems to have put that time to use developing a seriously impressive sense of humor. Isaac’s sassy lines gave us life, and Jace’s cocky, sarcastic, self-deprecating sense of humor would give Daniel even more room to shine in the comedy department.
Daniel has taken part in his share of stunts and fight scenes, facing off against both adversaries and his personal demons (and god knows Jace has plenty of those). Though we haven’t actually gotten to see Daniel do much Shadowhunter-style fighting in his most recent roles–Isaac used his werewolf claws, while Kaleb/Kol, his character on
, used magic–we have no doubt that he’d pick up the weapons training in no time.
While Jace’s inner demons are certainly a crucial aspect of his character (one we know Daniel can pull off, thanks to his turn as the abused Isaac on
), his softer side is just as critical to get right. Clary is one of the only people who can bring out the lighter, unburdened side of Jace (occasionally, anyway), and while we love Jace’s smirk, his genuine smile is just so rewarding to see. Please view the above gif (a.k.a. Exhibit A) for Daniel’s glorious smile and puppy dog eyes–who could resist that face? Plus, we just have to look to Isaac’s heart-melting bromance moments with Scott McCall (“I love Mexican,” anyone?) to know that Daniel can convince us of Jace’s softer side just as much as his damage and snark.
Jace is many things–smart, strong, funny, brave–and, luckily for us, sexy as hell. We don’t think it’s overstating to say that Daniel Sharman undoubtedly fits the bill in the looks department. He has the captivating eyes (THAT SMOLDER), the cocky smirk, the cheekbones that could cut glass, and–oh yeah–the abs to match.
Of course, Jace is very aware of his stunningly good looks, and he’s not afraid to use them to his advantage. Nor, it would seem, is Daniel.
Daniel is the complete package–all that’s missing is the blond hair. But that’s what the hair and makeup department is for!
Oh, and speaking of beautiful, Daniel has a dreamy British accent that we would love to hear on TV every week. But if the
creators decide that Jace should have an American accent, Daniel’s got that covered, too–he demonstrated his excellent American accent on
fan of America, so we don’t think he’d mind too much (though we’re still rooting for the English accent all the way).
Bonus: He’s No Stranger to the World of The Mortal Instruments
What’s not to love about an actor who is already somewhat familiar with the material? Daniel Sharman is no stranger to the world of The Mortal Instruments–you may recognize that dreamy voice we were just telling you about as the narrator of the
news: he took to Twitter this week to congratulate Cassandra Clare on the series’ announcement–and the author’s reply seems to indicate that she, like us, would be
@daniel_sharman And if we can ever tempt you over to Shadowhunters for anything, you just let me know. :)
We rest our case. Though Daniel is currently attached to the upcoming CBS medical drama pilot
has a guaranteed 13 episode order. Daniel Sharman is the perfect choice for
‘ Jace, and we’re crossing our fingers that he’ll have the chance to play our favorite sexy, self-deprecating, badass Shadowhunter.
Why do you think Daniel Sharman would be the perfect Jace?

He would make a better Alec. Which more people agree on, so I’m surprised he’s considered as Jace. Since all the reason mentioned above also apply to Alec.
I’m still hung up on Jamie as Jace, but I would be thrilled for Daniel to get the part! And on another note. I MUST have that audiobook now.
So with you on all of this! I adore Jamie, but Daniel is definitely my top choice if we must have a new Jace.
