 Riley (Vampire)
Riley (Vampire)
I lay there - transfixed, and in a bit of a daze. My eyes were closed, though the feu that once overwhelmed me was gone. I felt this odd sensation that I had never felt before. I felt... Stronger. I heard many cars, dripping water, people talking on their cell phones, bugs scuttling up the walls. Everything was so clear.
The people I could hear was quite a distance away. I wondered at how I came to know that. Was I ever able to do that before - judge ultimate distances with hearing alone? I wasn't sure. Actually... What happened to me in the last few hours? All I could remember was... That red flame. I was burning. I was dying. I was dying in the street, wasn't I? What was I doing in the middle of the street?
I couldn't recall anything. It was like trying to see something in the deep end of a dark pool. Wow, I must've hit my head pretty hard if I can't remember anything.
I was on my way to meet up with someone, wasn't I? Ugh! Why can't I remember?

A few minutes passed when I finally opened my eyes and took stock of my surroundings. I was under a freeway. However, things looked different. Way different. I could see every detail of every single thing I saw. I could see the concrete many feet above me, distinctly. I could see every grain of rock and sediment stuck into the matrix of cement. I was in a secluded area no doubt. The weather was cloudy, like as if it had just completed a rainstorm.
"Hello... Riley." I turned my head, on the ground, from side to side, but I saw no one. Then I lifted my head and saw... Her. It was the albino, red-haired lady I saw at the bookstore.
She was sitting on haut, retour au début of a huge wall. I was in the wash. What the hell was I doing in the wash? Who was this woman? Why is she here? I leaped up and I was suprised at how fast I did so. I glared at her. "Who are you?" She smiled and stood up on that very narrow wall. Does she know exactly how easily she could fall and die from up there?
How did she get up there? That is just humanly impossible. For the first time, I looked into her eyes and noticed they were red. A dark, dark red.
She unexpectedly threw herself off of the wall. I leaped back and she landed where I was standing a moment ago. How did she make such a leap? I hissed...Wait, I hissed? She laughed at me. "Relax Riley. No need to get in an uproar." I stepped backward. "How do toi know my name?" She slowly drew something out of the pocket of her jacket. She raised one eyebrow as she held up my wallet. She tossed it to me and I thought I wasn't going to catch it - due to the speed at which she threw it at me, but I did.
How odd. I continued to glare. "I said... Who are you?" She still smiled, not montrer her teeth. "I am Victoria. I've been watching toi Riley. toi are different. toi have potential. I can see that in your eyes. Tell me... How do toi feel?"
I looked her up and down, but I didn't say anything. She stepped vers l'avant, vers l’avant but I stepped backward. Her smile disappeared. "I am trying to help you, Riley. toi will not understand anything unless toi respond to me. How are toi feeling?"
I thought exactly about how I felt - then... I noticed... I gripped my throat. I felt as though I had been screaming my head off for the past few hours, but if I was, how am I speaking so suavely? My voice didn't even sound like me. I looked down at the ground, still gripping my throat with one hand.
She leaned forward. "Yes. That's exactly how toi should be feeling." My eyes snapped back at her. "What do toi mean?"
"Are toi thirsty, Riley?"
I nodded, though when I thought of water I was repulsed.
"Don't move," she commanded, and then she left at a blurring speed. I gasped, was I dreaming? She couldn't've disappeared that fast. She came back with something large - a woman - she was unconcious. I heard another sound. A beating heart. The feu in my throat became even worse. I couldn't control myself. Everything turned black, and all I could see was that woman in her hands. I ran vers l'avant, vers l’avant at a blurring speed, snagged the woman, and leaped over the mur that Victoria stood on.
I couldn't stop myself. I could barely think, and I was vaguely aware of what I was doing when I crushed my teeth into the soft flesh of the woman. The blood that she gave off quenched the thirst that was overtaking my senses. It seemed just as quickly as it had started, it ended. I dropped the carcass to the floor, and turned around slowly.
I realised what I had just done. I killed someone. I had just ended somebody's life. I'm... a murderer... I heard Victoria jump over the wall, but I was vaguely aware of her presence. I was focused on plus important issues.
I just killed a lady... With my own strength. Definitely not human strengh. No... I can't... Be... I yelled out in defiance. I was furious. I must be dreaming. I can't be a... vampire? Can I? vampires don't exsist!
I turned around to face Victoria. I growled. "I want explanations - and I want them now!" She stared at me evenly in the eyes - montrer no trace of emotion. "Human competency is lacking, don't toi think, Riley? I changed toi for the better. Think of it as... an upgrade." She a dit that like it was a good thing that I just killed someone. She sighed. "You were walking par yourself in a dark alley way. I was passing par when I saw toi get cornered par some thugs. They asked toi to give them your money, but toi refused. They defeated toi and tried to take your cash. That's when I stepped in, and that's how I came to get your wallet. They stabbed toi multiple times, and the knives were coated in poison.
"You were about to die, and someone with such bravery, for a human, was impressive. Don't toi see? toi are not one of clueless anymore. toi are in on the real deal. Being, what toi call, a vampire - is not a curse - it's a gift. toi should be grateful." I became confused. This was real?
I had been attacked and bitten par a real vampire? This woman had saved my life. I feel less volatile than I once felt towards her - now that I know. "I want all the details. I want to know everything."
"Hmmm... How do I begin...?"
One second, she was standing a few feet away from me. Another second. She was standing right in front of me. "Walk into the sunlight," she commanded. Was she changing her mind about me? Did she figure I was useless, and want to destroy me?
"Won't I... Distentegrate?" I knew enough about vamps to know that I would be chopped liver in the sunlight.
She laughed. "I don't fool around. There is a lot of things toi humans thought about our kind that were just plain false." She pushed me into the sunlight, but not forcefully. plus of like a reassuring, 'get out there' shove. I gasped and looked at my skin. It sparkled so brightly. I didn't know whether to be amazed ou completely terrified. I wanted to know more.
"What else do I not know?"
"You don't sleep in coffins, a stake through the cœur, coeur will not kill you, garlic is useless, toi are unimaginably strong and fast, toi drink blood, toi can live in the sunlight...," She put her finger to her chin, still staring at me, "And the only way toi can be killed is if toi are torn into pieces and burned."
Wow... That took a seconde to sink in. "Umm...," I looked at her, "Wow..." I must've had a bewildering expression on my face to make her laugh. It was beginning to get dark. Victoria looked up at the sky. "You are a newborn - and when I say that, I mean - just created, not a few hours ago. I'm sure one puny human isn't enough for you." Thanks for bringing it up again...
"You will need to feed again. Go and enjoy yourself for the month. All I ask is that toi don't attract too much attention," she smiled at me, affectionately. "I'll seek toi out later on... Until we meet again, Riley." I started to feel scared. She was the only person I could come to for help and she was going away..? "Wait...," I held up one hand towards her direction. "What if I need your help? What am I supposed to do?" She turned around to face me again.
She laughed. "Okay, I will meet up with toi every once in a while. I will teach toi the ways of being a vampire - how to properly hunt, how to stay unnoticed..."
I nodded. "I just need help getting adjusted to this new...," I spat out, "life. I can't go back to college, can I?"
"No, toi can't. Unless... toi would like to take the chance of killing your Friends - same goes for your parents." She had an apologetic expression on her face. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "You mean, I can't see them ever again?" I questioned nervously. She shook her head. "Maybe... When toi are less reckless. I will let toi know when toi are able to safely see your parents again." I nodded. "I'm going to need to hunt. I'm still not satisfied." I chuckled lightly, "What do I do?"
"You take the least noticeable person. A person who wouldn't be missed - a person... Who doesn't have a family. Then, toi dispose of them in a place that humans would never find them."
"I--" I started to say, but then she blurred to stand in front of me. "Shhh," She put her finger to my lips. "I'll take care of you, Riley. I promise." I looked at her, confused. She softly pecked me on the lips and then, she looked at the woman that I had just killed and laughed. "I'll take care of this one for you. Meet back here when toi are ready." Grabbing the carcass, she leaped back over the wall, and was gone.
I stood for a moment, trying to divulge all the information that was donné to me. Okay, I was a vampire. There was no going back. Then, I saw a shining object lying on the ground in front of me. That wasn't there before, was it?
It was a mirror. Why would she leave a mirror? I went over to the glass figure and for the first time - saw my reflection, as a newborn. I was pale and I had black, black eyes. Great. Although, I did look way better than my ordinary human self.
My throat ached. Victoria did say that I should go out and hunt. My thirst just couldn't be igonored.
I ran out of the wash as fast as I could. It all seemed so simple and easy. The cars didn't even see me as I flipped over them. It seemed like I was in slow-motion. I laughed at my new found freedom.
I made my way up a building and stood on the roof. I looked around at all the city lights and cars. Maybe this wasn't so bad after all.
It was cool of Victoria to let me get used to things. Now... Time to hunt. I flew down the side of the mur - sort of feeling like a ninja.
I saw a man lock and leave a run-down store, that looked like the front sign was going to fall off. He looked ragged and impoverished. He would do just fine.
I ran across the rue so quickly that not one human would have seen me - I'm sure. The man was in a secluded area, just putting his haut, retour au début hat on and walking about with his cane, languidly. He turned the corner and I was waiting for him. I snapped his neck, so fast that I'm positive he didn't feel a thing.
After I drained the man of blood, I looked around for a sûr, sans danger hide-away for the carcass, from a sûr, sans danger vantage point on haut, retour au début of a building. There was a dock where ghostly, lone boats were anchored at the bay. I took the man and hid him underneath the dock. It was so deep, and dark - nobody would suspect it. Hmm... Can I survive underwater without breathing? I tested how long I could stay submereged; after 10 minutes, I got extremely bored and resurfaced.
I killed and hid four other individuals before I felt content.
I returned to the wash and Victoria was waiting for me, back turned. "How was your outing?" She purred.
"Satisfying. Although, I'm curious about something."
"What?"
"Why do I have to stay low about the whole vampire thing? Why hasn't anyone ever discovered vampires before?"
She sighed. "That is a good question, and I will sum it up in a few words," she stepped forward, "there is an Italian coven that asserts the law for all vampires. They take down any one coven ou individual that is drawing to much attention to themselves - and there is nowhere for toi to hide from them.
"Many of the Volturi have special powers, including there leader - Aro. He has the ability to read every thought you've ever had with one touch. Only a few vampires have special competencies. I am not gifted, and neither are you, unfortunately."
I felt disappointed that I didn't have some kind of special power. That would be so cool. But... This Volturi seemed mysteriously threatening the way she explained them. They must be powerful if it has all the vampire clans fearing and obeying them. I shudder to think what they do to the rule breakers...
I noticed a change in Victoria. She seemed less confident. "Victoria?" She looked at me and looked away. I walked towards her. "Victoria, are toi all right?" She nodded and then looked at me, montrer no emotion. "The real threat, however...," she broke into a stern whisper, "are the yellow-eyes..."
