The Younger Woman and The Older Man

Much has been written and even plus debated about whether such unions make sense. What attracts the younger woman to an older man? And the older man to the younger woman?

Society often likes to pass judgment and compartmentalise the reasons for an older man-younger woman relationship as 'She's in it for his money and/or he's in it for the sex'. But that doesn't necessarily hold true in many cases. Often I have wondered if the same rings true in the society of the Harry Potter universe.

Younger women often complain that guys their age aren't mature enough. This has been true in the case of Hermione and Ron. It's a known fact that on the whole girls mature faster than boys and even as adults in a certain age bracket, say the 20's women tend to be plus mature than their male counterparts.

Guys their age often act like overgrown boys and seem to want to spend plus time watching football matches and at the local watering hole, rather than talking to their woman ou spending some quiet time together. Would the same ring true in the HP universe? Would guys who act like overgrown boys prefer to watch Quidditch ou spend their hours away at the Three Broomsticks?

So, why not turn to an older man who would probably be plus interested in similar pursuits and mature conversations?

Perhaps to some younger women, either from divorced homes ou who have Lost their father at a young age, it is an unconscious need to fulfil their longing for a father figure in their lives. While many discount this theory, it still does hold weight and has been found to be true in a number of cases. I realise this does not count in the Hermione circumstance, but is still added as a possible reason, whether it's relevant ou not.

Indulgence might also play a role. Older men are often plus tolerant and understand than the younger generation of males. They can be generous - both as amoureux and materially too. And women, who always l’amour to be cosseted, can get an enormous kick out of being cared for and indulged. I have always thought that maybe Remus could be the indulgent kind, perhaps not materially as he is poor but as a lover.

Now, to the other side of this article. An older man may be attracted to a younger woman because of all that she embodies. Older men find younger women full of vitality and life, with a sense of adventure that an older woman, who tends to be plus set in her ways, lacks. They are plus eager to adapt and are plus flexible. I see this being true for Remus, even with Tonks, the woman he ends up with.

Respect. Often an older man finds himself at the receiving end of a great deal of admiration and awe from the younger woman. Unlike women who are his peers, a younger woman may hold him in high esteem and defer to his opinion since he has years of wisdom to fall back on. And of course, he enjoys this feeling of being idolised. I find this rings true in Hermione's view of Remus.

And lastly, we come to physical reasons. Older men realise rather late in life that they would still like to be parents and most woman who are closer to their age are either past their childbearing years ou don't have the desire to still ours children. In younger women they can realise their aspirations for a family. She also makes him feeling younger, a sense of reliving his youthful days. I doubt Remus wanted to have children but even after having one, there was no regret.

The reasons for either party entering into an older man-younger woman relationship however, doesn't always make it work ou make it ideal for the couple in question. In fact, many such relationships have often encountered problems, not least among them, insecurities (older man is afraid younger woman is no longer happy with him and actually has ou sights set on hot, young neighbour), uncertainties about the future (younger woman fearing she'll be left alone ou a widow when he dies), feeling like misfits (often they find they can't gel with each other's group of Friends due to age difference and conflicting interests), ou simply younger women sometimes get tired of making all the adjustments because the older man is set in his ways.

But then again, which relationships doesn't have its share of problems and obstacles. While some are of the view that an age difference only exacerbates some of the typical problems inherent in a relationship, that does not necessarily hold true in all cases. As in many relationships, age only becomes a matter of numbers if ultimately the older man and younger woman, are both adult enough to enter into a consensual union, toi have mutual respect and the age difference doesn't matter.

Now, at the end of this article, toi might be wondering, why did I put this here and not somewhere else? What has this got to do with Harry Potter? Aside from the very small commentaires I put in about Harry Potter, I just wanted to write something about this couple, Hermione/Remus.

They're a rare pairing in Harry Potter and most fans I have come across find the pairing disgusting and most people misunderstand. I don't see their relationship starting from when they first met because when they first meet Hermione is thirteen. Even that is way too young for even me to stomach.

I usually like the idea of there being a hint when she's sixteen but nothing actually happening until she's seventeen which is the legal age in Harry Potter. With this, I have no problem.

I've also had many fans tell me about the problem in age difference. The age difference between Remus and Hermione is nineteen years. I don't find this much a problem either. I suppose it seems like a large gap mainly because Hermione is still young and Remus has aged earlier due to be a werewolf. If neither of these were the case then I doubt many people would question about their age difference.

I'm not écriture this to change anyone's mind, although if you've read this article on this spot then I assume you're at least curious about this pairing but I just wanted my opinion out there. Until this spot was created, I had only once ou twice considered Remus and Hermione a pairing in the first place.

The main reasons I did was because they have quite a bit in common. They were both prefects at Hogwarts, both are intelligent and clever and both have similar opinions on subjects. Even if toi hate this pairing, toi still must admit that this pairing is perhaps a little plus credible then Hermione/Severus (I support that too).

Thank toi for taking the time to read. I appreciate it.
