"ESCAPE FROM FORT BRAVO" (1953) Review

Years ago, I used to watch a great deal of old films on late night television. My two favori channels that offered these films were Turner Network télévision (TNT) and the American films Classic (AMC), which used to air films without any commercial breaks. On TNT, I had stumbled across a Western movie originally released par MGM Studios in 1953 called "ESCAPE FROM FORT BRAVO" (1953) and fell in l’amour with it. After watching my recently purchased DVD copy of the movie, I could see why it became a favori of mine.

Directed par John Sturges during the...

"TOM JONES" (1963) Review

Recently, I searched my memories for any films produced outside of the United States that not only won the Academy Award for Best Picture, but I would also consider a personal favori of mine. Only one came to mind - the 1963 movie, "TOM JONES".

"TOM JONES" turned out to be the seconde non-Hollywood film that won the coveted Oscar prize. Directed par Tony Richardson, the movie is an adaptation of Henry Fielding's 1749 novel, "The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling", about the coming-of-age and misadventures of an illegitimate young man, raised par a landowner in mid-18th...

Below is a review of "THE BLACK DAHLIA", the 2006 adaptation of James Ellroy's 1987 novel:

"THE BLACK DAHLIA" (2006) Review

Judging from the reactions among moviegoers, it seemed quite obvious that director Brian DePalma’s adaptation of James Ellroy’s 1987 novel had disappointed them. The ironic thing is that I do not share their feelings.

A good number of people – including a relative of mine – have told me that they had expected "THE BLACK DAHLIA" to be a docudrama of the infamous 1947 murder case. Others had expected the movie to be an epic-style crime drama similar to the 1997 Academy...

"THE SHADOW RIDERS" (1982) Review

When I first set out to discover how many of auteur Louis L'Amour novels had been adapted for the films and television, I had assumed at least a handful had gone through this process. I was surprised to discover that many of his works had been adapted. And one of them turned out to be the 1982 télévision movie, "THE SHADOW RIDERS".

I have only seen two L'Amour adaptations in my life - "THE SHADOW RIDERS" and the 1979 two-part miniseries, "THE SACKETTS". Both productions seemed to have a great deal in common. The two productions are adaptations of L'Amour (which...
