When we go see an action-adventure film, not many people put much thought into what goes into creating those thrilling action sequences. On that same note, not many actors actually perform those dangerous stunts; they leave it up to highly trained stuntmen/women. Finding actors who are willing and able to perform their own stunts is no easy task, which makes the very talented Joe Manganiello a hot commodity in the biz.

After graduating from Carnegie Mellon université with a degree in drama, one of the first roles Joe landed a role playing Flash Thompson in the blockbuster film Spider-Man. From that point on, he has landed role after role on some of television's hottest shows, he's appeared in several films as both an actor and stuntman, and is very active in the theater community.

I had the opportunity to speak with this talented and incredibly intelligent actor about how he got started in the business, the dangers of stunt work, and his recurring roles on One arbre colline and How I Met Your Mother.

Q: When did toi decide to pursue acting?

Joe: "I played football, basketball, basket-ball and volley-ball i high school. I was injured when I was returning the kickoff in a football game against Joe Montana's old high school. It was a muddy, rainy night and my cleat got stuck in the mud and I tore my MCL. It made me start thinking about what I wanted to do with my life and I realized that pursuing a career in football was not a high priority.

That injury forced me to realize what I really should be doing. I think jouer la comédie is a perfect job for someone like me who has a lot of different skills in very different areas. As a kid, I was always artistic and involved in art in some way, and having that artistic outlet is important as well."

Q: What was the worst (non-acting) job toi ever had?

Joe: "I only worked it one jour -- I studied for weeks to become a golf caddy and the first jour of work, I woke up at 4:30 in the morning to be on the course at 6 and I sat there for about 6 hours. Finally, some guy came along and needed a caddy for 9 holes. I got a couple of bucks and a Snickers bar and I never went back."

Q: Did toi have to go to a special school for stunt work?

Joe: "No. When my stunts are listed on IMDB, it's just the fact that I'm an athletic actor. I do as much as they let me do without getting killed. I do stuff that's borderline; it's like an athletic puzzle, ou a really crazy carnival game toi have to figure out."

Q: Have toi ever been injured doing stunt work?

Joe: "Sure. We had a four-episode arc for One arbre colline where I had to learn to play the sport slamball, which is basketball, basket-ball on a trampoline. Me and James Lafferty were the two actors on the montrer that were picked to do the slamball, so we had a two-week training period with the slamball professionals. I wound up pulling a muscle suivant to my spine, but I thought I had a cracked vertebrae and had to get an MRI. I sat out for a week, got some massages and got back in there."

Q: Do toi do your own stunts?

Joe: "I've worked with the same stuntman for the last 8 years. His name is Oliver Keller, he's from Switzerland and he's awesome! He's really good at deciding what I should and shouldn't do, so there's a lot of thought that goes into it. He's on set for the stunts that I will do. Obviously, it's a lot easier if I do my own stunts because it's going to be better for the filming. I recently started skydiving, so I've been hoping that I'll get cast in a movie like Point Break, where we can actually do a scene while we're falling in the air."

Q: toi play a recurring role on One arbre Hill, do toi plan on playing a plus permanent role now that Chad and Hilarie are leaving the show?

Joe: "That would be up to them (TPTB). I'm involved in other projects, but I l’amour that montrer and if Mark Schwahn (the creator) asked, I would l’amour to come back."

Q: You've had an incredible amount of guest starring roles on television, which has been your favori role?

Joe: "Honestly, my favori roles are the ones I get to do on stage. I got to play Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire, which has been my dream since I started acting. I loved my character on How I Met Your Mother. That montrer is so funny. I had so much fun doing that show, it's ridiculous."

Q: Which montrer has the best cast to work with?

Joe: "Because of the nature of the show, I'd have to say How I Met Your Mother. toi montrer up everyday for work and try to crack each other up. It's the best job toi can possibly get, toi laugh all day, toi go accueil laughing and when toi get home, toi think about all the stuff toi did that jour and toi start laughing all over again. toi can't beat that."

Q: Do toi have any projects in the works?

Joe: "I'm currently in rehearsals for a play with a playwright named Terrence McNally (a legendary American playwright), and I'm going to be in his new play. I just got back from New York after spending two weeks rehearsing with the cast and crew. The cast is incroyable -- everyone in this cast has multiple Emmys, multiple Tonys, and the playwright is a Pulitzer Prize nominee. It's a very decorated room full of wonderful artists. The play will run the mois of June at the La Jolla Playhouse."

Q: Anything to say to the fans?

Joe: "Thank you. This past an has been overwhelming in the amount of fan support. Keep it coming and thanks for paying attention."
