I was recently watching a very nice Brulian fanvideo & I started to wonder why I appreciate this couple so much. I think I figured it out:)
Of course I like Julian, I'm really happy that Brooke's so happy with him, that her dreams came true... But plus then that, I believe OTH really needed a relationship for one of main characters that started as adults
Let's take a brief look at other main endgames. As much as I l’amour them: come on... Naley - amazing, but people don't get married at 16... And if they get... it's 99,9% because of a baby on the way & it doesn't last always & forever, but few years tops... Leyton - my OTP, but she was his first crush, who, after a long & winding road appeard to be his true l’amour & wife eventually. Amazing - but things like that bearly happen.
Here comes Brooke. She trully loved Lucas, she was head over heels for him, she was sure he's the one. Isn't it what all (or at least most of)teenagers think about high-school sweethears? But Lucas wasn't the one. He hurt her, he changed her, she get over it, she found her true love. And personally I believe it was one of the most authentic things when it comes to relationships shown in OTH.
I know that tv shows aren't about realism, but OTH showed many real problems - both emotional, with friends, parents, as plus social - people who are alienated at school, drugs, violence. To some point most viewers identified with characters. That's why I believe creators should put plus attention to montrer that romantic life doesn't end after high school, it begins after high school! It's natural to find l’amour when your adult - it's extremaley rare to find it as teenager. First relationships are very tough, very emotional & usually seem to "the one". I think that introducing a character who shows that such a relationships don't have to be the lifetime ones is really important, especially because that's bascially normal in real life. Presenting all "loved-you-since-the-first-time-I-saw-you-when-we-were-5/10/15-till-the-end-of-my-days" relationships is sweet, dramatic, fairytale style, but not really "healthy", if toi know what I mean;) I think a little bit of realism is needed even in a tv show, also in terms of relationships.
That's why I'm really glad that Brooke met Julian in the way she did, that their relationship developed in the way it did & that they ended up so happy as thay did. OTH really needed them this way!

Everything here is just my opinion, I hope noone will feel ofended par it:)
