So, what does lie in the shadow of the statue?

In the season 5 finale, Alana asked Richard "what lies in the shadow of the statue" and he answered something in spanish I think. Can anyone tell me what that meant?

To which Richard responded (in Latin), "He who shall protect/save us all", apparently the correct answer. Ilana then a dit that she had something to montrer him. She opened the caisse she and her people had been carrying around to reveal the corpse of John Locke. Thus revealing to Richard and all the Others that the "John Locke" whom Richard had been following was an impostor.
