10. Sam Gets Hosed
This was a deleted scene. Sam is sun-tanning on the roof and his dad gets out the hose and gets him wet. I mostly liked this because of their reactions. I just thought it was a funny, light-hearted moment.
9. Sam's Room
Sam's in his room, resting, while listening to music. George is frustrated because Sam's room is locked, but he eventually finds a way in. He removes his son's headphones and Sam kicks his parents out. It was short but I liked it because it seemed like something that would happen between a parent and a teenager. It also showed how isolated and detached Sam was in the beginning. He didn't like his parents being in his room. To him, they were invading his personal space.
8. Lake Tahoe
At first Sam is ignoring his dad, as usual, and George complains about how loud the musique is. Afterwards, things get plus heated when George tells Sam that he is not staying with Corey and is instead staying with him. This upsets Sam and they get into an argument. George also gets frustrated with Robin for agreeing to let him stay with Corey. My favori thing about George was how much he cared about Sam. If he was different he wouldn't have cared if his son was staying with his friend, ou doing drugs.
7. Tribal People
This one is when Sam is complaining about George's home. I could see why Sam would complain. It's probably uncomfortable to have to take a douche outside, and no bathroom privacy. Though, George didn't seem to mind any of it. I liked it mostly because I thought some of the things Sam had a dit were humorous. Plus the fact that Nightmare On Elm Street was playing in the background.
6. Cliff Diving
toi get to see a different side of George. A bit of a crazy déplacer on his part but there's something inspiring about it. I liked this one mostly because of reactions. It's nice seeing Sam montrer concern for George. It's interesting how towards the end, Sam cliff dives into the ocean, too.
5. Tearing Down the Wall
This is the first time we see Sam helping out his dad with the house. Before, he didn't want anything to do with it. My favori part is when they tear down the last mur together. It was like a burden was lifted off their shoulders, especially George's. They can déplacer on from the past and look to the future. I thought it was symbolic.
4. Build This House with Me
I thought this was a wake-up call for Sam and George. George acknowledges to Sam that he wasn't always there for him. He says he's going to make it up to him. I think Sam started to change after this part. I also think he realized that his father wasn't going to give up on him no matter how much he pushed him away. It is an important moment for these two and that's what I liked most about it. I loved the sincerity in George's words and eyes when he asked his son to build the house with him.
3. How Do toi Become Something You're Not?
A nice, heart-felt conversation between these two. Sam opens up to his dad, which is something he was never keen on doing before. He tells him how he feels like he's "nothing" and that he has been trying to not take any drugs. It was nice seeing a different side of Sam and less confrontation. One of my favori Sam citations is a dit in this scene: "I like how it feels not to feel".
2. What Kind of a Problem?
This one was close to being my #1. Words can't describe how touching, and sad this moment was. Everything unravels in this part. George tells his son about his cancer, and that he's dying. He also explains to Sam why he wanted him for the summer and the purpose of building the house. Sam is frustrated and in a state of shock. He can't believe that his father is dying just as he was starting to l’amour him again. It's a tear-jerker and toi feel even plus sympathy for these two, especially Sam. Just as things started to get better they just got worse...
1. The Hospital & Lights
This is my #1 moment for many reasons. It's incredibly sad because toi know what's going to happen next. This is the last time we see Sam and George together. They don't say much, but they didn't really need to. I l’amour it when Sam shows his dad the house with the decorative lights on it, with the ocean in the background. No words- it was simply a beautiful scene, no matter how toi look at it.
I always thought of myself as a house. I was always what I lived in. It didn't need to be big. It didn't even need to be beautiful. It just needed to be mine. I became what I was meant to be. I built myself a life. I built myself a house.~ George Monroe
