Exclusive information on Kiowa Gordon's new film 'Into the Darkness'
The film story chronicles the adventure of a group of Friends as they make their way into an unknown cave system during a reunion camping trip. Though the trip is one of adventure at first, their story quickly turns into one of terror as they fight to survive the horrors that lay below.
The film is being produced par Moser Productions, LLC and Chain Gang Films, and will begin filming in May, 2010 with a March, 2011 release rendez-vous amoureux, date planned. Though production on Into The Darkness has yet to begin, however, the cast and crew have already been acquainted with eachother through a preliminary photo shoot and trailer production.
The cast, too, has already grown very close. According to Weber,
when we arrived there, we had all kinda just met. We all just kind of hit it off. I mean, I’ve been hanging out with Kiowa even after filming. I think we’re gonna hang out suivant week. He just got back from San Diego. toi know, we all just get along we have our frequent meetings all over Los Angeles just catching up, and we’ve built this chemistry on set ... and it really works out.
Anna Enger also remarked upon the "refreshing" closeness of the cast and crew coming off of their pre-production work in Tennessee, saying:
I think the greatest thing about filming this is just the people in the town of McMinnville. Everybody there was so gracious and so nice to us. Everyone had a great sense of camaraderie, and everyone wanted to make a good film. ... I mean the cast and the crew, it just felt like everybody molded, it just worked. The crew itself, a lot of local people from my understanding, in McMinnville, were the nicest bunch of people I have ever met. It’s incroyable how gracious and accommodating they were. So, toi know, I really enjoyed that.
It doesn't hurt, either, that the majority of filming will take place in the luxurious cave systems of McMinnville, Tennessee, which Enger states "are just so cool" that she doesn't know if, "even on film it will do them justice."
The cast is well-equipped to deal with the arduous task of cave-diving and hiking that the film will require. When asked if he predicted any difficulty in filming the cave sequences, Weber said,
For me, nothing really difficult at all. I mean, it might be difficult - if anything - for the sound crew and lighting. For me, it won’t be too too difficult I’m pretty athletic, so I can get into the cracks and crevices of the caves when I have to. I don’t really see any challenges with it though.
When asked if any of the castmates would have any trouble maneuvering around the complicated systems, Weber carried a similar confidence for his co-stars and new Friends as well.
Kiowa’s a pretty athletic guy, he was jumping all over the place having a blast when we were filming the trailer, but no, I don’t think they will have any challenges either, I think it’s all good.
The same was true for Enger, who hopes to have time to go caving "for real" during the off-time with filming Into The Darkness.
Well, I think difficult in a sense that it‘s gonna be strenuous. toi know, horror films in general … When toi film it takes a lot out of toi emotionally and physically, but I think it’s fun. I enjoy doing stuff like that, I really like the challenge and I think all in all it’ll be a great movie.
About their characters, Weber and Enger couldn't reveal too much, but Weber would compare his character Ridge to "Bear" from Man Vs. Wild (an "all around good guy" and "real outdoorsman"), and Enger finds her character to be very relatable. Says she,
[Allie] likes to think for herself, and leads on her own. She really doesn’t need anybody, she finds herself and part of her is vulnerable. I think throughout the whole journey, she kind of comes into her own, and I’m like that too I guess.
What Weber is most looking vers l'avant, vers l’avant to with filming in May is getting back into the caves, which is what drew him to the film in the first place ("it was different," he said, "a mile into the earth through these caves systems? Seemed kinda interesting. Something I've never done before.").
I’m looking vers l'avant, vers l’avant to getting back in the caves. I’ve really gotten addicted to going inside these caves and whatnot. Flying back over I think their planning on filming in the Smoky Mountains and exploring different cave systems, but I think producers are taking the cast before filming on a caving trip. I’m definitely looking vers l'avant, vers l’avant to that, getting back on set with the actors and actrices and, toi know, getting this done, getting it going, yeah!
