Kate's eyes opened, she was laying on her side on a warm soft surface. Her eyes scanned over her paws, that is odd. The gashes that Buddy left there were no longer visible, as were the gashes on her belly and the bite wounds around her neck. Her whole body was free of pain and hurt.
