The remake of Pride and Prejudice with Kira Knightley was awful. They gave a terrible impression of not only Elizabeth, but of the whole time period. And they made Colonel Fitzwillam fat and ugly which made me so mad. There were so many other things wrong with it one could write a book about it.

I don't think that the remake was awful at all. I thought it was brilliant, it showed a more human side to everyone. Both versions are good.

Oh and Pride and Prejudice is definitely my favorite novel of hers with my one of my favorite heroines of all time, Miss Elizabeth Bennet.

We are of similar minds, kateliness. The Colin Firth version is my absolute favorite, but there are both good and bad points to both films. Rosemary Pike was amazing as Jane and I preferred the girl who played Charlotte to the one in the 1995 version. The clothing and sets were more realistic of that time period in the new one as well. I enjoy both films immensely. Trust me, they could have easily butchered the story as Hollywood has done so many times before :)

EMMA!! i feel like its only elizabeth because p&p is the only one anyones ever read.

I identify most with Elizabeth but Catherine Morland is a close second.

Ive read and seen all jane austens and i love elizabeth! that saying i love many more....

I love all of the Jane Austen novels! However. Elizabeth Bennet has got to be my alltime favourite heroine. She's witty and smart and a good match for Mr Darcy, who is such a snob in the beginning.
Oh and I also love the adaptations of Persuasion, Northanger Abbey and Sense and Sensibility. They have been interpreted quite well, i think.

Anne and Lizzy are my favorites, but Anne is a bit more like me. I wish I could be more like Lizzy.
Fanny is my least favorite. Ugh, what a wet rag.

It was a really difficult choice. I love Elizabeth and Emma too, but I had to go with Elinor. I really don't know why, but I love her spirits, how she worries for her sister and how she manages to conceal her sufferings because she feels that it's more important to comfort her sister.

I agree with chel1395. The Colin Firth version of P&P is my absolute favorite. The remake with Kira Knightly was awful. They showed pigs running through the house (Longbourn). The Bennets were not as wealthy as the Darcys or Bingleys, but they were not that poor. The makers of the film seem to forget that Mr. Bennet was of the landed gentry. He paid just enough attention to his estate in order to survive, since it was entailed to a distant cousin. I can understand that.
Emma is my least favorite of JA heroines. She is just a nossy bust body.

Elizabeth is kind of my hero. She's amazing.

A three-way tie between, Elinor, Elizabeth and Marianne, but Hattie Morahan's portrayal pushed Elinor Dashwood right out on top for me. AMAZING performance :)
