Men may majority maintain the ever-growing horror market, but the real stars as we all know are the women. Promiscuous, prude. Brave, scared. Villain, victim. Horror is for women, and this liste is celebrating the ten most kickass final girls in the genre. Nothing says female power like a turned-on blender to the head of your attacker!
What is a 'final girl'?
The final girl is a trope in horror films (particularly slasher films). It refers to the last woman alive to confront the killer, ostensibly the one left to tell the story.
This liste is mostly different from my favori female characters overall, of which I might do an article someday. This is just the ten most fierce women who are very worthy opponents to the main villain. IN NO ORDER Enjoy!
Erin - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
First off, this movie is an excellent remake and is the best modern version of how a remake should be done. It's gritty and raw, but enough about the movie. Erin is a smart heroine. She doesn't run INTO danger like many horror characters so often do, it just stumbles upon her. But when it does she fights back with ferocity. Leatherface may have had a chainsaw, but Erin was prepared for him around every turn.
Kelly - Eden Lake
There's some débats about whether she's a true final girl ou not but without going into movie spoilers...I say she is. Talk about fighter! This woman's holiday with her boyfriend goes horribly, horribly wrong and now she's found herself at the center of a dangerous cat and souris game with kids. Awful, frightening kids. A truly fierce fighter and one that toi were definitely 100% rooting for the entire movie.
Julie - I (Still) Know What toi Did Last Summer
Okay I admit, maybe Julie being here has plus to do with my l’amour for Jennifer l’amour Hewitt than for her character but it still doesn't mean she can't kick ass. In the first movie she (and her friends) maybekindasorta had it coming. Just a bit. But par the seconde movie, you're definitely rooting for her. She's a survivor for sure.
Chris - Friday the 13th Part 3
Chris is not my favori F13 girl. But she IS the one I thought did the most damage and stood her ground with the unstoppable force that is Jason. She is the first victim to actually escape Jason long before the events in this movie take place, and her final chase scene with him is the best of all the series. Fighter 100%
Erin - You're Next
Of all the heroines here, she is the one that took me most par surprise. A accueil invasion gone wrong, she's merely just a guest. That guest ends up defending the accueil much, much better than the owners. She is smart, resourceful, and completely bad ass. Most horror characters have a chance to kill the villain and stupidly take one hit and run but not Erin. It's like she's done this before...Make sure toi have Erin on call if you're ever having a party!
Mia - Evil Dead (2013)
Mia is the most different of all the heroines here in that she's not put under ~normal~ horror circumstances. Her body is taken over par a demon so she will go in and out from being "villain" to "victim". But I still consider her a final girl because it's not like she asked to be a demon host. She fights with herself (insert something about inner demons) better than the best of the rest.
Sarah - The Descent
I don't know about the sequel ou what happens in it, and I don't want to. This movie is too perfect to have had any kind of sequel ou remake attached to it so I'm just referring to the events of this one. So with that said, Sarah is awesome. Not just one of my favori cul, ass kickers, but one of my favori characters overall. She enters a cave with deadly creatures and manages to adapt very well and very quickly to their habits to outsmart them. If that's not resourceful, I don't know what is.
Laurie - Halloween series
"Man Michael, just leave your sister alone!" I scream every time I watch a Halloween movie with Laurie. Again as with Sarah, Laurie isn't just a favori cul, ass kicker but a favori overall. Of all the heroines here, I think she has the most ~scary~ opponent so that alone makes her better than most. She is a survivor through and through and while Michael keeps coming for her, he also severely underestimates her abilities.
Sidney - Scream series
I know I have a dit these words a lot in this article but if toi look up fighter and survivor in the dictionary toi will find a picture of Sidney Prescott. Unlike other heroines in franchises, Sidney is facing a different killer each time. Imagine so many different people wanting to kill toi and toi still having the energy to live. I don't know how she does it! She's a role model for all young women if I ever saw one.
Nancy - A Nightmare on Elm rue series
She is my favori girl of all! I still don't have them in order but I did kinda want to save the ~best~ for last. She has the most difficult opponent of all. How do toi fight somebody who only appears in your dreams? I wouldn't even begin to know how to, yet somehow she manages it. She brings Freddy out from her dreams and kicks his cul, ass in the real world. And then when that is all over, she tries to do good deeds par helping other Freddy victims. A true heroine.
