Harry, Ron, the Weasley twins, James, Sirius, Remus, and Neviile would follow behind on my list of favorite males.
Oooh I like Regulus too. Underrated character.
Tl;dr Ffs fandom quit your constant bitching about Snape
Also the fandom has been unceasingly bashing Dumbeldore in the last few years, saying he was "Machiavellian" and "the ultimate Slytherin" and "didn't care about Harry, only his own ends". Lol, did we read the same books? I really don't know what the fandom expects from Dumbledore other than what he did - it was inevitable that he had an overarching plan to defeat Voldemort, and he wasn't "cold" or "uncaring" that he put it in place. He had to do it. I think that's very evident from the books.
Anyway yeah a few weird (and wrong IMO) ideas about characters have gained popularity in the HP fandom in the past few years. The opposite trend to the above is the reverse-bashing of Luna I see in some fanfiction: she's some sort of alien incapable of regular human feelings, 100% quirky all of the time, and her conspiracy ramblings become wise and prophetic. It's sort of worshipful but at the same time a shallow portrayal. In canon, she isn't a secret genius, and most of the crazy things she believes aren't real. She has more than one emotion - she's not in a perpetual state of dreamy aloofness, but gets offended/amused/hurt just like any other person. She has flaws, it's just that the trio see past them to accept her.
Soz for the rant lol
True! Even Dumbledore gets bashed. I've read a lot of fanfiction that made him the ultimate bad guy. One fic even makes Voldemort look like an angel next to Dumbledore who is portrayed as fully evil.
And true, fanfiction doesn't usually get Luna's character right.
Also I agree with all the comments here regarding Snape/James. The one thing that bothers me the most in the HP fandom is that so many of the fans either act like Snape was a saint with absolutely no bad qualities OR the Devil incarnate with no good qualities; they only see black and white and that actually goes against one of the main themes of the series, that everyone has shades of grey (except Voldemort + maybe a couple others- I think even with Umbridge & Bellatrix you could argue that they are loyal even if it's for the wrong reasons). It's just so biased. In my opinion he's in the middle; I don't like the way he treated his (non Slytherin) students, or certain actions, but ultimately he was brave and I think anyone who says otherwise needs to reread the series.
That applies to James too, he's somewhere in the middle imo. Basically if you wasn't really a fan of HP and saw some people's comments, depending on the fan you'd assume Snape & James were worse than Vernon Dursley, which is ridiculous.
Sirius.
Ron.
Remus.
Harry.
I like most of them actually.
