I love Voldemort, but Bella is my favorite character.

I think he's a good villain - he fits what the story needed. With such a strong good/evil vibe to the story, you did need a villain who was that evil, to the extent of being almost inhuman.

I don't like him as a character though. But then, I don't like Bellatrix as a character either.

I mean, as a villain he's really interesting.

I LOVE Voldemort as a character in the story!!! I always pay attention to the bad guys, and Voldemort is definitely one of my favorites! I like him because a) he has a fascinating background, and a character's background is extremely important; b) he's smart, I hate the stupid bad guys, they're so boring; and c) he's very dramatic, always giving long dramatic speeches, which I love. These among other reasons, though these are some of the most important. I put the answer about Bella because I know that lots of people really like Bellatrix. Personally, I like Voldemort better. :)

I don't like him at all. It's not like other villains -Loki, Darth Vader, and so on-. He is 100% pure evil, and there is nothing I can relate to.

Of course. Voldemort is a wonderful antagonist to the story. Also, you have to feel sorry for him, at least to some extent. I know that his actions can never be justified, the things that he did, but after all, the man has no feelings. I realize that that means no compassion, no kindness, no capacity for remorse or pity, but it also means that he has never been happy. He has never felt joy. Anyhow, it's not his fault. I believe that he is the way that he is because Tom Riddle was never really in love with Merope Gaunt. It was simply a love potion, which, as we all know, cannot create love. Nothing can. Love potion only creates obsession, an illusion of love that should never be confused with the real thing. Personally, I blame Marvolo. If he had been a good father to his daughter, she most likely would not have left in the first place. However, while it isn't his fault, Voldemort was a terrible person who did terrible things... but he's still a pretty cool villain.

I'm not sure I buy the "conceived under a love potion" explanation. Voldemort couldn't have been the only person in existence with such an origin, but he's the one who turned evil the way he did. And what about the other villainous characters - Death Eaters such as Bellatrix, or historic evil wizards like Grindelwald? Were they all meant to have similar pasts?
