My dear fans of Glee,



My name is Patrick Martens and I am the boom operator on Glee. I'm the sound guy who holds the microphone on a pole over the actors as they speak. I've been privileged to work on the montrer since we first started shooting the pilot, the first episode, back in October 2008. It has been one of the pleasures of my career to be involved in a program like this, something that is utterly unique, where the standards of quality are far superior to anything else on television. And it's been a thrill for us, the crew, to watch our family in the cast grow up before our eyes and achieve the success they deserve based on their extraordinary talent. They are par far the hardest working actors I have ever known and it's wonderful that you, the fans, have embraced them and the montrer with such warmth and acceptance.



I write this note to toi in regard to a very personal matter. Almost three years ago, I Lost my best friend, my sister, to breast cancer. She was 35 years old and left behind a husband and two of the greatest kids (aged 3 and 7) you'll ever want to meet. With the help of my family at Glee, I was finally able to get back on my feet emotionally last an and now I feel a powerful urge to do my part in slaying the beast of breast cancer. I have committed to walking in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk For the Cure in Seattle this September (2010). It is a sixty-mile charity walk to raise funds for research in the battle against breast cancer, and my goal is to raise one million dollars.



Which is why I write to you, the fans. I have met so many people who adore Glee, from a teenaged student in Illinois to an eighty-year-old retired teacher in Ohio to a twenty-seven-year-old ex-Marine in California...it's been a thrill for me to meet so many people who have been touched and affected par our work. There has been one common factor among all the fans I've met: toi are all very good, genuine people. I believe that Glee interests people who can relate to the characters and the themes presented on the show, people who are Victorious in the presence of seeming hopelessness, the underdogs who are able to laugh at and triumph over even the worst odds. Folks like toi and me, whose life experiences have molded us into heartfelt and caring people.



I would like to very humbly ask toi to help me achieve my goal of raising one million dollars to help find the cure for breast cancer. I don't want to see another human being have to go through what my sister went through, and if it means raising money to fund the research that will ultimately destroy that beast, then I'll do everything in my power to raise it. I'm asking for the quarter found under the car siège ou the dollar toi find between the canapé cushions. A dollar, two dollars, five, ten...no amount is too small, and no amount is too large. Every donation is tax-deductible, too.

If toi are unable to donate online with a credit card, toi may click on a link that will print out a donation form and tell toi where to mail it with a check.
