Most americans,australians etc tell me that they- although living here- cant be bothered to learn German because everyone speaks English.

I was just looking for that link. Thank ya ma'am!

And yeah, actually, it has been my experience that most Germans do in fact speak English quite well. Still, once I get a handle on Svenska to the point I no longer have to think about what I want to say, I am going to learn Deutsch.

I use to live in Germany. It's my hometown. Until, i moved to America. Germany has something special that America doesn't have. The people are vivacious, and they are so friendly. The city and neighborhoods feel like you're in a whole different world it's so beautiful and peaceful. Don't get me wrong America is awesome too, but Germany has that special something. I miss Germany. Germany ROCKS:)

no but my dad was born in Germany but had to come to America cause of the war!! (ww2)

I went with school for one day to Xanten. so yes I went to Germany, but I haven't seen that much of it.

hey guys it#s not true that germans don't speak english I'm german too and can say nearly everybody wants to speak english as perfect as possible - well me too xD

Deutsche versuchen englisch sprechenden entgegen zu kommen. Englisch ist ein muss haben in den Schulen, seit 5. Klasse, glaube ich.
Aber es ist immer sehr sehr schoen wenn die Besucher versuchen etwas deutsch zu sprechen.

I went there last summer - It's amazing,I really liked it there <3

my grandmother and half of my family is from there it sucks that I have never been able to experience germany

I still have family living there. My grandmother came to America in early 1920's. She had a sponsor. She stayed friends with her sponsor until they died. My grandmother was born in 1903 and died in 1999. She went back to Germany for a long visit after my father's father died. He died of Cancer at age 48. My dad was only 11. His older brother was 18 and little brother was 3. My grandmother took my 3 yr. old uncle to Germany and my dad stayed with my other uncle. My 3 yr. old uncle was so young when he went, all he heard was german. When he came back to USA he couldn't speak english and haad to relearn it.

I went there on a German club trip during school and I have to say it was AWESOME and Germany is so beautiful! I would love to go over there again!
