I've seen more comments in the GOT spot in the last week than I have anywhere in ages, and I love it. It's like the good old days! I've been making more of an effort to do a number of these things across fanpop for a while, but the activity still seems to stay concentrated in a small number of clubs. Anybody interested in trying to do more of these things, or have any better ideas?

I removed the option "fix the site" because this question is asking about what the fans can do, and that is in the hands of the Fanpop Gods.

For real though, I think commenting more and adding more content would help. But commenting on articles especially. I find that articles don't get many comments anymore so I just don't bother because they are time consuming and not worth it if people don't even read them. In general commenting on polls seems to have gone down. And videos and images (regardless of quality) tend to not get any comments anymore.

Maybe if Fanpop had an invite button where you could send an invitation to a friend to join the site? Or something similar to that, maybe?

I'm really surprised at how much attention the 'invite new people' option is getting... what would make new users more active than the existing ones?

Pretty much all of these.

I have a habit of linking random people on other sites to Fanpop content to try and get them to join, but every time I've (knowingly) successfully recruited someone to Fanpop, they simply haven't stuck around. I have managed to get people to join just so that they can join a club, answer polls and quizzes, etc. but that seems to be it. After they've done what they joined for, they never seem to log in again. So I feel like all I've really achieved long-term is stuffed up the server with a bunch of dead user accounts. XD

Maybe there's power in numbers. Maybe if we all talk about Fanpop on other random websites, it'll attract more attention? ;)

I love the idea of regaining our long lost, old members too! I do miss quite a few people from here, plus there are some Fanpop users whose comments and content I've seen and enjoyed, but never got to know those people before they disappeared! If anyone here is in touch with old users then hey, why not go for it and try to get them back on here? But personally I have no contact with them (unfortunately).

Commenting, adding content and giving props are all good ideas too, although to be fair I think those of us who want to keep Fanpop alive are already doing a lot of all those things. I guess what we really need is for a larger quantity of users to get involved in these things too.

Fanpop is such a fantastic concept for those of us that have a really wide range of interests and just want a place where we can obsess over all of them at once! But it's so much more fun when you're not the only one posting in a club.

@Dark New users would comment more because they haven't already commented on and voted on every single old poll in their favorite clubs. *Somehow side eyes myself*

link, everyone. XD

There are a lot of older users still around that vote and even occasionally add stuff that you wouldn't know were still here unless you stalked them, because they never comment anymore. *cough* I mean, probably? Maybe? I don't know? XD

I guess my hope is to make the place engaging enough so that people who occasionally drop in will find something they can't resist... and maybe stick around for a little while. Nothing against new users, I just think it'd be cool if fans stuck around long enough to get familiar with, like Ye Olden Days, instead of just a constant stream of newbies with short attention spans.

New members are more likely to be active because don't people tend to be more active when something's new to them? I tend to find that I do that with new fandoms, and I assumed most people act similarly.

Old members would probably just ghost if they were somehow forced to return. They left for a reason.

^I join and/or create new spots whenever I start obsessing over something new. That's the joy of fanpop - if your thang isn't here, you can make a club for your thang. And if it's here, you can still go through and answer picks and comment - even if it hasn't been touched in years - because it's still new to you. I love doing that with shows I missed the first time around. Yay for old fandoms and new streaming availability!

@DS Accurate lol.

I've actually come across some of those people and I'm kind of like, wow I didn't know you were still about. But yeah I agree, I just wish that some new users would stick around to become old users.

Many of these would really help. Regardless of new or old Users, what I see myself missing is enthusiasm / excitement. A bit more effort from EVERYONE would be a major step in my opinion. Old Users have sticked around, got well-known and contributed more but stay mainly in the sidelines right now. New Users visit and make a start but the lack of activity around them as well as the lack of interest to the content they share (all the more on Clubs that can be considered dead) can be enough to discourage them. Especially when there are various other Social Networks with more traffic. Fanpop really doesn't feel as hospitable. The Admins could do a lot on that matter but they opt not to. There is only so much that we, the Users can do without the assistance of those who control the place and can work towards improving it. Glitches, outdated designing, influx of Spammers / Trolls, etc. Those will always exist but with the lack of regulation, they are especially apparent in here.

That aside, yes, posting and commenting more could bring out a more positive image as well as activities that all are welcome to use their skills and express what they love. That is what Fanpop is all about in the first place. One being recognized / rewarded for their efforts would really go a long way too. A bonus. Not necessarily being called out publicly or having to depend on the completely vague Medal System. Just a few words of praise / encouragement or a prop as a sign of good will says a lot however. Especially to newcomers that are testing the waters.

About the Alliances / Befriending more Users Option, I am a bit on the fence about it. Concerning the first part at least. I believe that certain types of Alliances which can also be known as Cliques are part of why Fanpop is detoriating actually. It has been often that I witnessed Clubs being dominated by a small group of Members, displaying support only between each other while the rest are being treated exclusively as outsiders. This really has a pretty negative impact for the place as a whole in the end. Of course, I'm not saying that a person should go out of their way and get close with everyone that comes their way but a more accepting and open approach in general could help. And certainly some Alliances can be just as helpful when going outside the realm of Cliques. A way to still keep things alive and coordinate around the Site.

In overall, there are a lot that need to be done and taken in consideration when it comes to returning Fanpop to how it used to be at this point !!!!

^The "alliance" part was just a last-second addition to go with the GOT icon I chose, where two families are literally forming an alliance for war. =P

I agree with your comment that "One being recognized / rewarded for their efforts would really go a long way", and that's why I think it would be cool to bring proper proppin' back. =P When the walls arrived on our profiles, most users just started attaching a prop in everyday conversation, and I think actual props meant to show appreciation kind of lost their meaning. It used to be like a knee-jerk reaction to seeing something cool. For me, anyway. Trying to get back in the habit.

(Is this time to put on battle armor and start a speech that would go something like, "Fanpop brothers and sisters and whatever that weird icon represents! The time has come to reclaim the meaning of props! Join with us now as we seek out quality content, and reward the fan responsible with a few clicks and encouraging words! What is propped may never be unappreciated!" No? Not the time. K, cool, gottagobye. XD)
