99% of toi are amazing fans! This is a guide on dealing with the 1%.

To summarize:

1. rapporter ATTACKERS IMMEDIATELY. toi are doing the entire community a favor as they are probably attacking other members.

toi MUST PROVIDE AS MUCH EVIDENCE AS POSSIBLE IN THE rapporter FIELD, including liens to the attacks.

Attacks are personal insults, threats, bigotry, etc. A person saying they don't like a contribution is NOT an attack. Having a débats is also not an attack until insults/threats etc. are mixed in.

2. IGNORE THEM. DO NOT RESPOND BACK. If toi attack back, toi are probably giving the attacker/troll what they want. We won't dig through 20 pages of reports to find out who started it. In some cases, both people will be banned.

3. Reporting is not a weapon. People who fraudulently rapporter enemies, do not provide details, and/or repeatedly rapporter people without providing evidence may also be removed from Fanpop. Some weirdos rapporter their own fake users. Seriously, toi are asking for it, and toi aren't fooling anyone.

4. CHEATERS WILL BE BANNED: DON'T SWITCH TO YOUR FAKE ACCOUNTS EVER AGAIN

Don't switch accounts to jack up your fans, props, vote votes, ou whatever. It's not fair to the honest fans. If toi have Friends who do this, please send them this article.

ALL of your accounts will be banned for life if a moderator chooses, even if toi have amazing medals. I'm sure toi can think of some famous banned fans, so we are serious. Consider this the final warning.

If toi created multiple accounts for any reason, pick one, and do not ever log into the other accounts again. toi don't need to supprimer the old accounts, but do not use them. Excuses like "it's my brother/sister/dog's account" won't cut it.

Everyone is forgiven at this point. If you've cheated in the past, just don't do it again.

If toi get caught cheating after this article is published, toi are toast, and toi may lose your "main" account forever.

This is an article describing how and why bans happen. It's an updated article based on one we posté in a troublesome club.

We've recently lifetime-banned several of the most troublesome users and deleted all of their content. In other words, there is no coming back for them. All their contributions are gone.

"But Fanpop, how can I avoid getting banned? I'm just a nice, honest, non-cheating fan!"

If someone picks a fight with you, DO NOT RESPOND, and immediately rapporter it, and make sure toi link to ou quote the offending content. We absolutely need all the details. If toi simply rapporter the user without providing evidence, no action will be taken against them.

Also, we're talking about personal attacks, not normal human interactions.

Example:
A fan writes: "You suck and yo mamma sucks" ->You rapporter them->Troll banned for life->You helped fanpop terminate a troll and made fanpop a better place!

Bad example:
Another fan writes: "This was some interesting fanfic, but the first section is taken word-for-word from my work last week. Here's the link. Do toi mind changing it ou attributing it to me?"->They are NOT a Troll, NOT banned, toi should change your fanfic immediately, and toi just wasted everyone's time. That being said, if the fan started the post with a slur ou insult, they would have a problem.

There's a saying that "you can get away with almost anything if toi do it nicely." While we're not necessarily encouraging people to try to get away with stuff, the "nicely" part is the key takeaway.

donné the volume of content and literally millions of fans, we cannot go and dig through a thousand commentaires to find out "who started it."

Think of it this way: if teachers and parents right now don't have time to figure out "who started it", imagine if one's parents had millions of children. Are they going to have time to sift through everything?

If toi do respond to a dit troll and there is a ton of back and forth, with both sides cussing each other out, both of toi will be banned from ever joining fanpop again. There is a good chance moderators will supprimer 100% of your content and strip your médailles and caps, as well.

If your buddy was banned, please do not bother to contact us. There was a very good reason, and saying "he was really nice to me" really means nothing. Even criminals are nice to some people. Giving a moderator attitude will be bad for everyone, and toi won't be helping your friend's case.

The good news is that 99% of the users here are great people and not causing problems. Be cool and courteous with one another, report trolls immediately, WITH LINKED EVIDENCE, and every time WITHOUT responding to them, and, together, we'll purge them from fanpop once and for all.

Hey everyone,

I felt like écriture about the constant reposting of icones from livejournal, because I have become a very active lj user in the past months and I know of many lj people who are annoyed as hell to see their icones posté here.

First of all I'd like to say that I did it too. Yes, I took icones that were posté on livejournal and posté them here with credit.
Now toi might say: Okay, but if people credit them, why is there a problem? It's not as if the lj people own the original pictures they icon.
This is of course true, but I think it is plus about respect and being polite.

To like ou not to like? That is the question.

Earlier tonight, the ratings system of fanpop experienced a massive overhaul. No longer can toi rate content on a scale of one to five (ala YouTube), but if toi like content, toi can "like" it (ala Facebook), ou "be a fan" of it.

Dave gave a very good, logical explanation for the change to help assuage some fears and answer some questions:

"Hi Guys,

Thanks for making this pick. There are a lot of reasons we wanted to create a new system for deciding whether fans like something ou not. We found that most people were rating either 4 ou 5 stars so we thought...

 If toi must promote a club, try these tips.
If you must promote a club, try these tips.
Re-reading the various articles about promoting clubs on Fanpop, it occurred to me that some fairly basic ideas were missing for promoting the clubs toi like (not just the ones toi create, but any clubs toi enjoy).

Many of the précédant etiquette articles and forum threads have described things to avoid in promoting a club, as well as suggestions for things to do. For once, I'm not going to rant about undesirable behavior (that's the plan, anyway), but just keep the focus on other things fans can try to promote their favori clubs. I hate those darned internet predators, don't you?
I just logged onto fanpop about a half heure il y a and discovered something extremely profane and inappropriate on the YouTube spot. Due to it's heavily pornographic material, the video was deleted shortly thanks to several reports from some handy fellow Fanpoppers.

It was soumis par a user of the name bon8699. I reported this user 3 times and I expect him to be banned for a long, long time.

The reason I am so annoyed that this was soumis is that this is not some pornography site. And this is most certaintly not NewGrounds, where toi can soumettre images like this as much as toi please without...

I swear to whatever higher power toi believe in that I am going to injure someone with all the shoddy spelling going around. Yes abbreviations are easier (in a sense) but it looks like a 5 an old wrote it and a lot of people don't understand it. So lets first go over some abbreviations that we should cut out of our vocabulary here at fanpop when toi post content...

u = you
r = are
srs = serious
2 = to ou too (using it as "two" is fine)
plz = please

If toi actually take that .5 of a seconde to type the whole word people will look at your content, commentaire and such a lot plus and with nicer comments...

I am not here to lecture toi yet again on photo crediting. I am done with that.

I am way past the lecturing and into downright grrrrrr-ville.

toi already know full well that taking something toi did not create and not giving full credit to the owner is theft. Your excuses mostly boil down to laziness at this point.

So.

This is my public notice that any and all images with no credit to the original owner of the image will be rated harshly no matter how great the picture is... ou how much I normally like you.

Additionally, if there is a blatant Copyright notice right there on the damn picture and toi still failed to credit the owner, I'm reporting it to fanpop -and- notifying the owner of the image that toi a volé, étole it.

Enough is enough.

Right, well the titre is a bit sarcastic. The whole "trolling" thing is sorta annoying me that having a low rate on something HAS to mean toi were trolled...well maybe there's a different reason. I'll break it up to why that might not have been a trolling...

Soapboxes
- Did toi use proper grammar? Check your spelling
- What's a paragraph? Learn how to use paragraphs properly to make your soapbox formatted and not look like a 1 étoile, star article
- They may not agree ou think your opinion is totally outrageous...not a trolling

Images
- Would toi like that quality of a picture? Try and avoid small and bad...

Yes, I am fired up again over another issue of cruelty here on Fanpop... specifically the practice of passing judgment on other users.
    Let's face it, we do not know each other personally, and for the most part none of us have ever met in real life. I think it is cruel and sad that people find it necessary to try to judge the intentions ou actions of others. How could anyone possibly judge another person ou their actions without knowing them personally ou knowing the things they are going through. toi could not possibly say what toi would do in their situation without...

Okay, I don't know if it's just coincidence but I noticed this week that some picks just are, I don't quite know how to describe it, bad.

It just seems that a lot of picks are asked so that they are asked, a lot of them don't have pictures. (that's not very important but I can't help noticing)
But the worst thing is that there are so many typos in the questions. Look, my English is not very good, I make a lot of mistakes but al least I try to make as less as possible. I mean, a lot of questions are just so wrong, the 'preview' thing that toi get when you've finished making your pick is there...

A few minutes il y a I thought of a partial answer to the récent outbreak of internet trolls we've had over the last few moths.

Ladies and Gentlepoppers, I introduce to you:

The ATSOF (The Anti Troll Squad Of Fanpop)
This will be a society of fanpoppers who work together to justly rate any content which has (without reason) been rated low.

My plan is to make an ATSOF Spot; if a spot ou particular piece of content has been rated low toi can alert the ATSOF spot about this and some of the "fans" of the spot will head over to the content and rate the content fairly, therefore boosting the rating.

Please tell me what toi think; I don't want to create a Ghost-Spot-to-be

If we make a new spot we want to make it popular. Recently I made a new spot so when I wanted to send a message to all my Friends about it I got tired of typing individual messages so I quit. So we should be able to send one message to all our Friends at the same time if necessary. Also there should be an area that says "new spots" on the accueil page so that people can see what has been recently created and if they want to rejoindre the particular spot. It would really make the people who created the spots happy because they could get some good publicity.

par the way I made a new spot about Kal Penn, the indian guy from the van wilder movies, Harold and Kumar go to white castle, and Epic Movie.

So if u like those films check it out. all toi have to do is type "Kal Penn" in the chercher engine" (obviously, I know)

Also this soapbox was ment for the fanpop spot

Hello to everyone,
my name is Inès, and I'm French.

As a lot of toi know, Paris has been attacked yesterday par terrorists. The concert hall "Le Bataclan" has been attacked during a concert.

128 dead and plus than 200 wounded are for now counted. This is a tragedy.

I was born and I've lived in Paris, and I often go there and to the Bataclan to attend concerts, and seeing this, is just awful. The whole country is shocked and desperate.

3 national days of mourning have been declared.

I invite toi to leave a few words, thoughts for the victims of this disaster.

Thank toi <3

* boldface your text
* put your text in italics
* underline your text
* have your text point to a different url link
