It began for me about thirteen years ago. I guess that's a good a measure as any other. Back then, at the tender age of five, I heard Harry's story for the first time. I spent five years waiting for my letter, just like everyone else. Up until now, I've been an "in the closet" Potterhead. Not any more. In memory of a story we will always remember, I decided to write this small piece containing my thoughts.
Many would say that Hogwarts is imaginary, that it doesn't exist. Years ago, I learned from the Velveteen Rabbit that things become real when toi believe in them enough. After all, reality is only made up of what we believe. Since so many of us believe in Hogwarts, it became real for us. It's a place to escape our dull Muggle lives. It's our home. And it always will be.
Though the story is over in respect to the livres and movies, it lives on in us. It's a part of us. We don't need the Resurrection Stone to see Harry, Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, Snape, Dumbledore, Voldemort, and all the others. They are in our hearts.
We will pass the story along, father to son, mother to daughter, just as the Invisibility manteau had been passed. It is our inheritance. As long as we remember, the story continues.
For us Potterheads, there will always be a skinny boy with a curiously shaped cut on his forehead saving the world. Harry Potter is real for those who believe in friendship, the power of words, and the magic of love.
He is real for all of us because we believe in what Harry represents. He is a pure spirit. He embodies all that is good. As long as we remember Harry, his story, the story of the Boy Who Lived, will continue.
Always.
