Christmas box office is about to begin, so are you ready to go Into the Woods this holiday season courtesy of Disney?
From the looks of these eerie billboards for the movie adaptation of
Stephen Sondheim\'s Tony-winning musical, Meryl Streep\'s going to do her very best to claw her way to the coveted top spot as the \'Witch\'.
Rob Marshall directs an all-star cast in this modern twist on several beloved fairytales, all intertwined with an original tale of the \'Baker and his Wife\' (James Cordon and Emily Blunt) who want to start a family, but have been cursed by the Witch.
Anna Kendrick plays \'Cinderella\' and Chris Pine her not-so-charming \'Prince\', Lilla Crawford plays \'Little Red Riding Hood\' and Johnny Depp stars as \'The Wolf\', whilst Mackenzie Mauzy is the long-haired \'Rapunzel\' and Daniel Huttlestone is \'Jack\', the boy with the infamous Beanstalk.
This twisted tale is certainly darker fare than some would expect from
Disney and these outdoor ad creatives with the immensely bankable Meryl Streep certainly reflect that, but Daily Billboard is sure purist fans of the source material may be slightly worried about the \'Disney-fication\' of the musical.
Meryl Streep towering over L.A.\'s Sunset Plaza was snapped on November 21, whilst the standard landscape billboard was spotted further west along Santa Monica Boulevard in Westwood.
Only time will tell if audiences will accept
Into the Woods with open arms, especially as there\'ve been so many other contemporary takes on fairytales in recent years, including ABC\'s Once Upon a Time TV series.
Not all have been successful updates, but for more feature films inspired by fairytales and fables, be sure to also check out these
Jack the Giant Slayer billboards, Red Riding Hood movie billboards, Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters billboards and these Snow White & the Huntsman movie billboards, to name but a few.
