Is it as good as the original? No! But it is an amazing movie that did enough to be different from the original while still being faithful to the original, as well as did more than enough to justify its existence. So far, it's the best of the live-action remakes.

It was okay. I don’t have an issue with them wanting to make the movie more serious and I like the relationship between Mulan and her comrades (it’s a real shame we didn’t see more of that). What I didn’t like was Liu Yeifei’s acting, the phoenix not serving a purpose (It could of stopped the arrow and the sword from burning, and I didn’t like how Mulan was already a good fighter and we don’t see her hard work from being an awkward fighter to the bad ass she turned out to be.

In fairness to that last part, that was more accurate to the original Ballad of Mulan where she was already a trained fighter, thanks to her father, long before she ever stole her father's armor and ran away to take her father's place.

^Well I wish we could of seen her dad training her.

I haven't seen it. I already hate it because the director completely divested it of the original elements that "made it magical" to me.
