I'm admittedly biased since Ariel gets so criticized and lambasted for simply taking a risk. I will admit Aurora fans slightly irritate me when they project personality onto her that simply isn't there--calling her deep, introspective, etc over a few sentences of evidence. But that honestly doesn't really bother me. I really just don't like princesses getting criticized for essentially not being perfect human beings or fitting into what is expected of them because they're women. (Ariel, Merida, Jasmine especially)

Both annoy me.

I'm annoyed, because all Ariel ever gets is criticism...and NO praise at all. She just gets defended from her haters. And that's not praise.

I also dislike to see people praise Belle, Tiana, and Merida no matter what they did ( but heap loads of criticism on Ariel and Mulan for doing many of the EXACT SAME THINGS). Like it or not, the Disney princesses are all kind of carbon copies of one another, with very few self-defining traits.

When my favorites get so criticized all of the time, and then I post about the problems I find in other princesses who aren't perceived to have any flaws...that's when I get "accused" of being "unfair."

To which I roll my eyes. Because people can clearly "dish it out" for me---but don't like "getting it back."

^I really barely see Mulan criticized. Ariel yes, but she also gets tons of praise-- from me lol and others--- and Merida gets criticized a LOT, WAY more than she EVER gets praised.

^I don't see that happening. I see people saying that they dislike Merida, but she is not getting a steady bashing in every poll that features her.

With Ariel, there is pretty much a "bashing session" every time a poll with Ariel is posted.

fans criticizing a princess aren't completely blind to the flip side of her personality the way rabid stans are - even i can concede the occasional good points/flaws in criticism re: ariel or belle or snow.
i think people are generally less likely to see bad things in a character they're attached to than they are to acknowledge that a character they don't like isn't 100% awful. and the potential for being ridiculously emotional and defensive goes up when fans feel like they need to protect their favorites from being "attacked." imo there isn't the same level of personal over-involvement coming from the other side.

@wavesurf- I definitely see Merida being hated on all the time, Ariel gets criticized as well but also gets heaps of praise and I don't think it always turns into a bashing session. That being said, it just makes me sad that people like to dump on someone for taking a risk, especially another woman.

^I know that you weren't on Fanpop for a while. In your absence ( and around the time I joined this club)...the dislike for Ariel was just growing and growing and growing.

I literally, in the early days, received hate mail from ghost users who knew I loved Ariel and would harass me about it.

Both really annoy me! If you like a character, that's good. But don't act like they shouldn't be called out for certain flaws in their actions or the way they're written.

I pretty much agree with disnerdtobe. I don't understand why people put so much energy into hating imaginary characters, but if people love and praise a certain character then they're just spreading happiness and positive feelings. :)

Both annoys me, but somehow peoples who overly criticized any of certain princesses are sometimes have acceptable reason. Certain princesses are written to be way too flawed so it's obvious why.
Instead peoples that seems to cannot accept their favorite princesses to have flaws are slightly annoys me more. I agree with what UnholyNoise and KataraLover said.

I don't care so much about fair criticism, but it really bothers me when a person really HATES a princess. None of them are bad characters, I don't see any need to despise them. And if you can't stand them, sure show some criticism, but don't go on and on about it to the point where a person's hatred of one princess stands out more than their love of their favourite.

The other option also annoys me, but to a lesser extent - and I much prefer blind love of a character to completely despising another.

I don't mind at all when people see to praise a princess too much. These movies are made for people to love them and they just feel something I don't. I'm happy to see people praise them even if I don't think it fits. I always like positivity! Criticism is alright too. I don't really like it when people are hating on a princess. None of them deserve it. On fanpop it's different because we're actually Disney fans here and we make more sense lol and usually just criticize not hate, but outside in real life I see sometimes people just totally hating and degrading the movies. Grrr.

basically agrees with Unholynoise. They just fail to acknowledge the flip of their fav princess. Everyone must love them or they will start a war with you.
