I despise him, not as much as I used to, but I can't deny he has some development. But the thing is that his development isn't done very well and is kind of half assed.

I've got to pick my battles and this ain't one

I like him a lot, and I think he has good character development, but it's a bit simplistic and rushed.

He starts off as your stereotypical "lazy, spoiled, playboy party animal" stock prince that had become an established "fractured fairy tale" stereotype long before The Princess and the Frog came out, to a selfless, hard-working monogamist. Not too much else to him. (As my beau said, his entire character development is about going from being lazy to be being hardworking; from philandering to monogamistic.)

While I think there's more subtly and nuance to him than most people give him credit for (he is shown to be brilliant and adaptable, and like Tiana to have a real fear of being vulnerable and heartbroken), it's not quite enough for me to think he's VERY well-developed.

Like Dr. Facilier, I think this suffers from a rushed story stage. If Disney had taken a bit more time to tighten the story and flesh out the characters a bit, Naveen would have gone from good to Great.

He does develop, but it's extremely rushed. One minute he's singing about when he's human and the next he's automatically in love with Tiana. I can't blame him for falling in love with Tiana, but I don't see how it happened, where his thought process was, why all of a sudden he would give up his play boy lifestyle and settle down, what made Tiana the shiner in his eyes, etc.
