I get Rapunzel is nerdy and intellectual but I don't see where everyone sees a genius in her. The whole teaching herself to chart the stars, for one example, isn't realistic at all. Someone would have had to teach her, just like with chess and a number of things. Why are Ariel, Anna, Merida, and Snow White widely considered stupid yet Rapunzel is at LEAST as gullible as any of them, if not more so?

Anyway, I have Mulan (inventive mind, cunning), Jasmine (very quick-thinking and reads situations well), and Cinderella (logical and easily the wisest princess) as smartest. I do think Belle is intelligent but she is far from being the smartest as most think (though it's nice to see she's not in the lead for this for once!). Reading doesn't make you a genius any more than baking a cake makes you the Iron Chef. It really annoys me how she is constantly held up as the Intelligent One, like only she is smart and the others have no intelligence, at least not near her's.

I say Belle because she's able to make the other staff think she knows that the castle is enchanted, she figures out where the west wing is, and...well, she *is* literate.

I have to agree with AudreyFreak about Rapunzel's gullibility, even though she is still the second smartest to me. She is highly intellectual but some of her actions aren't always intelligent.
